Gymkhana and Rally X Ready to Heat AFOS

This time around Motorsport Asia, the AFOS organizers, are determined to bring its loyal fans a lot more excitement during the weekend. The Asian Festival Of Speed , Malaysia Event will feature four FIA-Sanctioned race Series’; the GT3 Asia, Formula V6 Asia, Asian Touring Car Series and Formula BMW Pacific.

On Sunday, 31st May there will be a Gymkhana competition and Rally X Taxi-Rides being held at the paddock car park area, as additional perks for hardcore motorsports lovers.

Grass Racing Autosport (GRA), the Gymkhana organiser is expecting a total of 50 cars to sign up for the weekend ' s competition. "Gymkhana is a different level of motorsport, as this is an introduction to the sport, we are making this event simple," said GRA Clerk of Course Ian Khong.

To make things interesting, there will be a few categories that participants will be competing in, depending on what vehicle they bring. Among the categories are front wheel drive, rear wheel drive and even automatic transmission cars. There is also a category for kit cars and rally cars.

On the same course as the Gymkhana, held in between the competition’s judging times, the public will be given a chance to enjoy the Rally X demonstration.

"Rally X is still relatively new in Malaysia and we believe the sport will get the interest of many Malaysians," said event organiser and rally driver, Jagjeet Singh.

"To gain the interest of the fans, we will be placing off road buggies and rally cars at the grandstand. However on Sunday, during the lunchtime, there will be demonstrations by some of the local big names in these cars," said Jagjeet.

Jagjeet welcomed all motorsports fans to experience the off road buggies in action as manoeuvring the cars requires skills and experience.

To add glitz to the glamour, this year there will also be a Supercar display by NAZA at the paddock area and another NAZA display of their cars and bikes at the Grandstand area.

Spectators will also be entertained with hard-thumping sounds coming from 10 top-class DJs from ‘Turn It Up’ and a bevy of cars in the ICE (In Car Entertainment) competition.

Following a special request by the Car Clubs last year, Kayu Nasi Kandar has agreed to set up a ‘Mamak’ stall for some outdoor ‘TT’ session at the circuit.

To make it more irresistible, entrance to the grandstands is free. There is a special RM10 pass that allows access to the Pit-Walkabout, Paddock Rooftop and the air-conditioned dining area at the Paddock.
