ERICKSON SEALS THE DEAL AT ORAN PARK

CAMS Rising Star, Daniel Erickson, today took home the Avon Rookie of the Year award at Oran Park Raceway, Sydney, in the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship.

The 21-year-old Macarthur resident secured the title in a battle for second with Chaz Mostert in race two yesterday and made it a sweeter deal, completing the Oran Park round with a race lap record and race win today and second place for the round.

“I didn’t have any expectations coming in to the round, obviously I had Rookie of the Year in my sights, but race wise, you just never know what’s going to happen – and that’s obvious with the proceedings on Friday; my thoughts are with Lucas and the Dumbrell family,” said Erickson.

“I was hoping for a podium finish this weekend, I knew that if I could do that then Rookie of the Year would be in the bag, but to also come away with the race lap record and race three win, that just made the round even sweeter.”

Erickson piloted his #23 Spectrum this weekend with an extra special livery consisting of photos from the Macarthur community.

“There are about 40 photos and logos making up the livery, it represents the Macarthur community and everyone who has supported me this year.”

Erickson is hoping to make an announcement shortly regarding his 2009 plans; thought to include a British Formula Ford assault.

ERICKSON SECURES ROOKIE OF THE YEAR LEAD

CAMS Rising Star, Daniel Erickson, secured the Avon Rookie of the Year lead this weekend in The Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Symmons Plains Raceway.

The Camden (NSW) teenager leapt from sixth position to fourth in the Championship to take the Avon Rookie of the Year lead amid mixed weather conditions at the Tasmanian circuit.

After strong practice and qualifying sessions, Erickson secured second position on the grid for race one, alongside Paul Laskazeski.

“Having never raced at the Symmons Plains track before I didn’t really have any expectations coming into the round and as much as the Xbox can prepare you for a track, anything can happen once you’re there.”

Race one began with a tussle for the lead, before an unfortunate incident took Championship leader, Laskazeski, out of the race.

Erickson maintained a small race lead before brake issues caused him to run wide, sending him back to seventh position, finally greeting the chequered flag in fifth position.

Race two saw Erickson involved in an incident with Lucas Dumbrell, resulting in bent steering.

“The incident with Dumbrell bent my steering, I was trying to hold on to cross the line, but a late move by another competitor took me out of the race on the next lap.”

Erickson began race three from 12th position and fought his way up the grid to secure third for the race, fourth place in the Championship and the Avon Rookie of the Year lead while recording the fastest lap for the weekend.
