VICTORIOUS END TO 2008 FOR BRITISH GT RUNNER-UP METCALFE

Ferrari 430 driver Jeremy Metcalfe secured his second race victory of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Donington Park yesterday afternoon, Sunday, 12th October, during the 14th and final round of the season.

The win, which the 20-year-old secured by a margin of some 15 seconds, also enabled Jeremy and CR Scuderia team-mate Luke Hines to end the campaign as British GT Vice-Champions on 62 points each.

Very happy to be back on the top step of the podium at the conclusion of his maiden year in sportscar racing, Fleet based Jeremy said: “It was a brilliant race for us, the car was great and meant I didn’t really have to push to be fast. I was confident we could win, it’s a fantastic way to end the season – I’m absolutely delighted.”

Lining up third on the grid by way of Hines’ best lap from Saturday afternoon’s qualifying session, it was the experienced GT driver who took the first stint of the race and he immediately made an impression by taking second place at Redgate on the opening tour and first position on lap 13.

Although confusion surrounded the two-hour race as it approached mid-distance, due to a mix-up involving the deployment of the Safety Car and the running order behind it, Hines maintained his composure and handed over the No.16 Ferrari from the lead.

Jeremy headed out of the pits with just over an hour remaining on the clock and when the race order settled once more following the stops, the 20-year-old was in first place with a three second advantage over the Ascari KZ1R of David and Godfrey Jones.

Increasing his lead comfortably throughout his stint, Jeremy held a 15 second cushion with a quarter of an hour left. Following a faultless drive, Jeremy eased to his and Hines’ second win of 2008.

“It’s been a good year for Luke and I”, added Jeremy, “If we’d had better luck there’s no doubt we’d have won more races. I’m pleased with how things have gone though and I’ve very much enjoyed racing the CRS Ferrari – it’s a great car.”

Taking their first win, and therefore maiden podium of 2008, during round three at Knockhill in Scotland, the No.16 pairing went on to secure further podium finishes at Snetterton, Thruxton, Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit and Silverstone. Including Sunday's win, Jeremy has visited the podium six times this year.

As the home event for CRS, the team headquarters situated in Bardon near Coalville, this weekend’s race meeting at Donington also held local importance for Jeremy as he has recently started a BSc (Hons) course at Nottingham Trent University.

METCALFE SECURES FIFTH PODIUM OF 2008 AT SILVERSTONE

British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star Jeremy Metcalfe achieved the fifth podium finish of his debut season of sportscar action at Silverstone International Circuit on Sunday, 17th August, during round 13 of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

Marking the 20-year-old’s maiden two-hour endurance race, the CR Scuderia driver and his team-mate Luke Hines were in a position to win at one stage but a stop-go penalty for a refuelling infringement during the driver change pit-stop dropped them down the order. Fighting back into third, Jeremy was still satisfied with a great result.

“I’m pleased to be third, it’s good to be on the podium again and we’re back in the runner-up spot in the championship now so that’s good with one race left”, commented the Fleet-based driver, “Luke did a great job during his stint, I took over from the lead and we did look to have a great chance to win.

“Then we were given the stop-go penalty which, although frustrating, is fair enough as it’s in the regulations. It’s disappointing to see the chance of a win slip away when it’s not in your control but I’m pleased with how I drove this weekend, I raced well and did as good a job as possible. The car was great too.”

Following Sunday afternoon’s result, Jeremy and his team-mate are now in the runner-up position in the driver standings behind already crowned British GT Champions, James Gornall and Jon Barnes.

Coupled with the race win for CR Scuderia’s No.14 Ferrari, the Silverstone results have ensured the Bardon-based squad has secured the British GT Teams Championship crown during its maiden season of competitive action.

Lining up sixth on the grid for the first two-hour event of the season, Hines took the first stint and did a good job to move into the top four and by the time he pitted at mid-distance to hand over the No.16 car to Jeremy, it was from the lead of the race as others had all made their compulsory stops.

When Jeremy rejoined the track, Michael Bentwood was in first place in his Aston Martin but when he entered the pits on lap 50, Jeremy took over the lead of the race. Things changed 12 laps later though when CRS radioed to Jeremy and the second-placed sister car of James Sutton as both were being given 10 second stop-go penalties.

During the driver-change pit-stops, both cars had doors open while refuelling took place and this is against championship regulations. Unfortunately, the call to Jeremy came through late as he was passing the pit entrance and so a last-minute attempt to get into pit-lane resulted in an excursion across the grass.

This allowed Sutton to move ahead and after both cars emerged, Jeremy was down into fourth place. However, during the final half hour the Hampshire racer managed to pass Nick Foster’s RPM Viper Competition Coupe to seize the last podium place.

Jeremy added: “Now we need to see what we can do at Donington Park in October, it’s another two-hour race so I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully Luke and I can try and end the season on a high with a win – that would be a great result.”

FOURTH PODIUM OF SEASON FOR METCALFE AT BRANDS GP

Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent was the venue yesterday, Sunday, 13th July, for the fourth podium finish of Jeremy Metcalfe’s debut season in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship – the Hampshire racer ending round 12 in second place.

Although taking the chequered flag in third position after some great driving by Jeremy and his team-mate Luke Hines during the one hour race – the duo starting 12th on the grid – a penalty applied to second placed finishers Nigel Redwood and Nick Foster lifted Jeremy into the runner-up spot at the end of the 37 lap outing.

Very happy to take another second place finish, the 20-year-old CR Scuderia driver is now focused on fighting for race victories during the last two rounds of the season as he aims to end his debut year of sportscar competition in the runner-upspot.

Unfortunately for Jeremy, the headline GT3 Class title has already been wrapped up by Brookspeed Trimite pairing James Gornall and Jon Barnes. Nonetheless, the Fleet racer will be aiming to conclude the championship on a high and will be gunning for wins at Silverstone in mid-August and Donington Park during the season finale in October.

“Obviously, it’s great to be on the podium again but it’s been a bit of a frustrating weekend as we’d had a problem with the car which we couldn’t quite get to the bottom of”, said Jeremy at the end of round 12, “It did hamper our chances this weekend but I’m confident for the final two races we’ll be strong and able to challenge for wins.”

Currently equal fifth in the GT3 Class driver standings, the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star is just six points shy of the runner-up spot which is currently held by fellow CRS driver Michael Cullen.

OVERSTEER ISSUES COMPROMISE METCALFE PODIUM CHARGE

Hampshire’s Jeremy Metcalfe was unable to challenge for his fourth podium of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship season at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday, 12th July, after battling hard against heavy oversteer during the 11th round of the campaign.

Happy with his CR Scuderia prepared Ferrari 430 GT3 during the morning practice session, the 20-year-old from Fleet headed into round 11 qualifying hopeful of a spot on the first couple of rows on the grid but had to be satisfied with fifth place, his best lap a time of 1m 31.126 seconds (90.89mph).

Taking the first stint in the opening one hour encounter of the weekend, Jeremy made a great start to move into the top four as part of a three-car CRS train during the first half of the race but he was unable to get fully on terms with the top three due to oversteer problems which compromised his, and the No.16 Ferrari’s, potential.

Handing over to team-mate Luke Hines from fourth position shortly after the pit-stop window opened, the duo were eventually classified in ninth place as Hines continued to struggle with the same oversteer problems.

Reflecting on the day, Jeremy said: “I was really happy with the car during the practice, it felt good, but in the race we had a big problem with oversteer. Obviously, there was nothing I could do other than drive as hard as possible to hold on to fourth place, while looking after the car of course, until the pit-stop.

“It was a really tough race for Luke and I but I’m confident we’ll be in better shape for the second race where I hope we’ll be able to fight for the podium. Without the problems with oversteer it would have been a much different story.”

Unfortunately for the Metcalfe-Hines partnership, the team-mates have slipped from equal third in the GT3 Class driver standings to sixth position having missed out on a points finish by just three 10ths of a second at the conclusion of round 11.

While the championship lead is now out of reach with only three rounds of the season remaining, Jeremy can still end the year joint-third in the standings

METCALFE THIRD IN CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER THRUXTON PODIUM

British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star Jeremy Metcalfe took his third podium result of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship season at Thruxton this afternoon, Sunday, 29th June, with an outstanding drive at the wheel of his Ferrari 430.

Competing at his home venue, the 20-year-old took the round 10 chequered flag in second position but he and team-mate Luke Hines were then handed the race win after the victorious Trimite Brookspeed Viper Competition Coupe of series leaders James Gornall and Jon Barnes was served with a penalty for speeding in the pitlane.

Having enjoyed the podium celebrations on the top step, everything changed once again when the CR Scuderia pairing were dropped back to their original placing of second after the penalty decision was overturned by race officials. After all of the confusion, the final result of second sees Jeremy move back into equal third in the championship standings.

Commenting on the result, he said: “It’s great to finish second, when we thought we had the win the feeling was obviously even better but we’re happy with the result. The car was great when I got in it, after about five or six laps though the tyres went off quite badly as they were wrecked by then - everyone’s were. I’d say our car was looking after the tyres the best of anyone on track though.”

Due to start round 10 from 13th on the grid, this became ninth when several cars were unable to take the race start. With Hines in the car for the first stint, he managed to avoid chaos at the complex on lap one and emerged into lap two in seventh position.

As the field headed towards the conclusion of lap six though, contact involving several of the GT4 Class Ginetta G50 cars resulted in the race being stopped. Taking some time to clear away the very badly damaged car of Bradley Ellis, after a lengthy delay the race re-started over 30 minutes.

The compulsory driver change pit-stop window opened in time for the start of the ninth lap of the re-started encounter and the team instantly brought Hines in – having climbed his way into fourth position. Jeremy rejoined outside the top 10 but immediately started to close the gap to the cars ahead.

As the race order settled following all of the pit-stops, Jeremy found himself in fifth place after reeling off a series of strong laps. Picking off fellow CRS driver Michael Meadows part way through lap 19, Jeremy then moved into the top three with an excellent pass on Hector Lester’s Ferrari into the chicane.

Pressing Tom Alexander’s second placed Aston Martin as the race entered lap 21, Jeremy looked as though he would easily be able to negotiate his rival but before he had chance, the 22GT Racing car had a spin at the complex.

Although Jeremy was able to move into second, the spinning Aston did cost him several seconds and prevented him from trying to challenge the leading Viper of James Gornall over the last couple of laps. In the end, Jeremy crossed the line just 1.3 seconds behind.
“I drove a steady and solid race”, added Jeremy, “We had a bit of luck at the end but then again, we were a bit unlucky for the second placed Aston to spin in front of us as I would have passed it anyway and I think we’d have had a chance of getting onto the back of the Viper too if we hadn’t been delayed.

Having slipped to joint eighth in the standings on Saturday, Jeremy has now leapt back up the order into equal third in the championship ahead of the next race meeting, the last double-header event of the season, a fortnight from now at the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent.

“I think Brands GP should be a strong track for the Ferraris and I’m really looking forward to it”, said the Hampshire ace, “The circuit is fantastic and hopefully we’ll be able to fight hard for wins there. We had good pace at Thruxton, I managed to qualify on pole again, so I’m sure we can carry that level of performance forward to Brands Hatch.”

PIT-LANE MISFORTUNE COSTS METCALFE POTENTIAL WIN

Avon Tyres British GT Championship front-runner Jeremy Metcalfe saw a potential race victory slip through his fingers at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire this afternoon, Saturday, 28th June, when misfortune befell team-mate Luke Hines during the compulsory driver change pit-stop.

Eventually finishing the ninth round of the season in seventh position, the CR Scuderia pairing did look on course to challenge for their second win of the campaign when Fleet based Jeremy handed over his Ferrari 430 GT3 to Hines in the lead of the race under Safety Car conditions on lap 16.

However, contact from the then second placed Cadena Motorsport Aston Martin as Hines attempted to leave his pit-box, still with the lead intact, resulted in chaotic scenes and saw the CRS Ferrari slip to eighth position as the race resumed.

Reflecting on round nine, Jeremy said: “It’s really frustrating as we had a great chance to have a very good result today. After qualifying on pole position with just one flying lap, I was really confident we could pull out a good lead and that’s what I was doing until the Safety Car appeared about 12 minutes into the race.

“The car felt fine and I could easily have pulled away more but the Safety Car spoiled that. When Luke took the car over we should have gone back out in the lead but as he tried to leave the pits we were blocked in. When our car was pulled back into a better position to allow Luke to leave, the Aston Martin went straight into the back of it.”

Having secured the second pole position of his debut sportscar season during the earlier round nine qualifying session with a thoroughly dominant performance – Jeremy’s best lap of 1m 16.697 seconds (110.58mph) achieved with just one flying lap – he led the race very comfortably from the start and looked in good shape throughout his stint.

Posting his quickest lap of 1m 17.350 seconds on the fourth tour, which ended up as the second fastest lap of the race overall, the 20-year-old British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star comfortably opened up a gap to the second placed Aston Martin until the Safety Car was deployed on lap 11.

Wiping out his four second lead, the field continued to circulate under the Safety Car until the compulsory pit-stop window opened at the end of lap 15 and Jeremy led the train of cars into the pits. Rejoining in eighth place after the pit-lane debacle, Hines climbed into sixth as the race entered lap 27 but had to settle for seventh in the end.

“It’s annoying we didn’t have better fortune today but I raced strongly and I’m happy with how I performed”, added Jeremy, “We start tomorrow’s race from 13th on the grid which will be tough but hopefully we’ll be able to fight for some points.”

BATTLING METCALFE RESCUES ROUND EIGHT POINTS

Jeremy Metcalfe produced a stunning fight-back during the eighth round of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk yesterday, Sunday, 8th June – the Hampshire racer climbing from 15th position to a richly deserved seventh place finish at the chequered flag.

With team-mate Luke Hines taking the first stint in the pair’s CR Scuderia Ferrari 430 during the one-hour endurance encounter, he climbed from eighth on the grid to sixth position at the start and looked in good shape early on.

Following a Safety Car period with around 10 minutes of the race having elapsed, Hines continued and the duo appeared on course to, at the least, consolidate their third place in the driver standings which was achieved with a terrific podium finish on Saturday.

Just prior to his pit-stop to hand the car over to Jeremy though, Hines received contact from the Ferrari of Adam Wilcox at the final corner as the latter moved off line to negotiate a slower GT4 Class car. Resulting in both cars spinning, Hines pitted down in 15th place.

Rejoining the track in a lowly 19th position, several cars ahead still yet to pit, any hope of points looked as though they had long since departed. Jeremy was in inspired form once again though and mounted a superb fight-back to bring the car home in seventh position – an outstanding effort by the 20-year-old British GT rookie.

Making tremendous inroads throughout his stint in the car, the Fleet ace had climbed into the top eight by lap 33 and remained there for the next 11 laps as the Team RPM Dodge Viper ahead proved too powerful on the straights.

Remaining on the case, Jeremy managed to pressure his rival into a mistake with a couple of minutes remaining and gladly took seventh place as the Viper ran wide out of Coram Curve.

Scoring points in all of the last six races, Jeremy has been improving with every outing and has shown consistently good pace and battled hard with great determination when the chips are down.

Reflecting on round eight, Jeremy said: “The car felt good and we were able to put in some very fast lap times. It’s a shame that Luke had the spin as that ruined our race really. I also got stuck behind a Viper for a long time which didn’t help but we’re pleased we got the podium finish on Saturday.”

There is now a three week break in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship calendar before the ninth and 10th rounds of the campaign at Jeremy’s home track, Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, on 28th/29th June.

In the meantime, highlights of the fifth and sixth rounds of the season – which took place at Rockingham in Northamptonshire a fortnight ago – will be screened on Channel 4 during the early hours of Wednesday morning, 11th June, at 02.40. Motors TV will also carry the programming throughout the next two weeks – check listings for details.

BRITISH GT ACE METCALFE TAKES SECOND PODIUM OF SEASON

Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk provided the venue for the second podium finish of Jeremy Metcalfe’s maiden Avon Tyres British GT Championship campaign yesterday, Saturday, 7th June – the Hampshire racer now joint-third in the 2008 driver standings as a result.

Mastering very difficult wet conditions which were a feature of qualifying and the first of the weekend’s races, the 20-year-old from Fleet produced a terrific performance at the wheel of his CR Scuderia Ferrari 430 during the opening stint of the one-hour encounter to run in a highly competitive second position up to the driver-change pit-stop on lap 17.

Team-mate Luke Hines did go on to take the lead of the race a couple of laps later when the order sorted itself out following the round of pit-stops. Although passed by the championship leading Trimite Brookspeed Dodge Viper and Matech GT Racing Ford GT during the closing stages, third place was a welcome result for the duo.

“I got a good start and the car did everything I wanted”, said Jeremy, “I drove my best, Luke drove his best and I think third was the best we could have realistically hoped for. The team has done a great job, it’s great to get another podium and more points for the championship.”

Qualifying the fastest of the regular British GT runners, Jeremy was very quick on the wet track and set a best time of 1m 19.540 seconds (88.34mph) to secure a place on the front row for round seven – second only to the powerful Ford GT which is making its first, and only, appearance in the British series this weekend.

Taking into account the six points scored for third position during yesterday’s race, Jeremy is now equal third in the driver standings on 26 points along with team-mate Hines and fellow CRS racers Michael Cullen and Paddy Shovlin.

Looking ahead to round eight this afternoon, Sunday, 8th June, the duo will start on the fourth row of the grid after Hines posted a best time during the second qualifying session of 1m 19.700 seconds (88.16mph). Today’s race will take place at 14.00.

Television highlights of the fifth and sixth rounds of the season, which took place at Rockingham, will be screened on digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV today at 13.00 and then again at 22.00. Further re-runs will be shown throughout the next fortnight with additional coverage on Channel 4 on Wednesday, 11th June, at 02.40.

TOP FIVE IN ROUND FIVE FOR METCALFE AT ROCKINGHAM

Avon Tyres British GT Championship race winner Jeremy Metcalfe has moved to within just 12 points of the top of the 2008 GT3 Class driver standings thanks, in part, to an excellent piece of driving during a rain-lashed fifth round of the season at Rockingham International Super Sports Car Circuit yesterday(Sunday, 25th May).

The 20-year-old CR Scuderia driver  ran as high as second place in this afternoon’s encounter ahead of his mandatory pit-stop. Handing over to team-mate Luke Hines under Safety Car conditions at mid-distance, the latter brought the car home in fifth position to make it three points scores from the last three races.

In addition to Sunday’s result, Jeremy and Luke’s championship position has also benefited from the application of penalties to several rival competitors in the aftermath of the previous event at Knockhill.

With a number of drivers declared guilty of yellow flag driving infringements during round four, the No.16 Ferrari 430 has now been classified in eighth position overall – sixth in the GT3 Class – and therefore scores three points for the second Knockhill race.

With the round four result still remaining provisional for the time being, added to the fifth place achieved during today’s round Jeremy and Luke find themselves back in joint fifth position in the championship standings – just nine points shy of CRS stable-mates Paddy Shovlin and Michael Cullen who are currently second.

“As we expected, the Vipers and the Lamborghinis were fast but things didn’t go too badly for us today”, said Jeremy after round five, “Both Luke and I raced well and although it would have been great to finish on the podium, I’m pretty happy with fifth place and more good championship points.

“The conditions were very tricky but it was the same for everyone out there. We lost out a bit when the Safety Car was deployed but that’s the way it can work out. Tomorrow we start further down the grid but I’m confident we should be able to fight for more points.”

During his round five qualifying run today, Jeremy produced the fifth fastest time with a lap of 1m 37.664 seconds (71.50mph). The rainy conditions progressively got worse throughout the day until part way through the first of the weekend’s British GT races.

For that reason, the opening Rockingham encounter started under Safety Car conditions and when the action properly got underway at full racing speed on lap three, Jeremy’s fifth place soon became fourth when the pole-sitting Lamborghini Gallardo of Leo Machitski pulled out of the lead with problems at the end of the fourth tour.

At the end of lap six, Jeremy moved into the top three following a spin at Brook Chicane for another of the Lamborghinis. Lapping consistently well, the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star then started to produce fastest lap pace to move within two seconds of the pair of Dodge Vipers ahead.

With the Safety Car having been deployed due to a car in the gravel at Tarzan, Jeremy pitted at the end of his 16th lap from second place. Following the change-over to team-mate Hines, the car rejoined the track in fourth position and although losing the spot to the Viper of Nick Foster and Oliver Bryant very late in the race, a top five result was still welcome.

Scoring points in all of the last three races, Jeremy and his team-mate are on a good run of consistency and are now aiming to make it four points scores on the bounce during the sixth round of the season tomorrow, Spring Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May.

METCALFE BULLISH AFTER ROUND FOUR DISAPPOINTMENT

Jeremy Metcalfe’s bid for a second successive Avon Tyres British GT Championship podium finish at Knockhill, following on from his stunning debut victory at the Scottish track on Saturday, unfortunately came to nothing yesterday afternoon, Sunday, 13th April, following contact from a rival during a robust fourth round of the 2008 season.

While Saturday’s race performance, coupled with his stunning pole position lap in qualifying, was undoubtedly the Fleet racer’s best outing since switching to sportscars at the start of the year, Sunday afternoon’s encounter ended with disappointment through no fault of either Jeremy or team-mate Luke Hines.

Former British Touring Car Championship race winner Hines took the first stint and came into the pits to hand over to Jeremy at the midway point in sixth position, although the pair’s CR Scuderia run Ferrari 430 GT3 was carrying a damaged rear diffuser – the result of contact from another car earlier in the race.

Swift repairs from the CRS mechanics ensured Jeremy would be able to join the race but contact from the Chad Racing GT3 entry of Peter Bamford ruled him out of the reckoning. As it currently stands, the incident is subject to investigation by officials.

“The damage we took to the rear of the car cost us a bit of time but we worked our way up to eighth and were going well when Bamford turned in on me and that was it, game over”, explained Jeremy, “The team did everything they could and so did Luke and I but sometimes, whatever you do, it just doesn’t go your way.”

Having been joint-fifth in the headline GT3 Class standings following the round three race win, Sunday afternoon’s retirement means Jeremy is now equal 13th in the British GT Championship standings.

Nonetheless, the performance and pace the 20-year-old British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star has shown this weekend bodes very well indeed for the remainder of the season.

There is now a lengthy six-week break ahead of the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship which will take place on Sunday, 25th May, and Spring Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May, at Rockingham.

Before then, coverage of the third and fourth rounds of the British GT Championship will be shown on digital satellite and cable channel Motors TV. The first screening is scheduled for Saturday, 26th April, at 18.00 with two additional airings on Monday, 28th April, at 04.00 and 10.00

METCALFE TAKES MAIDEN GT WIN AT KNOCKHILL

Jeremy Metcalfe produced a thoroughly dominant performance at Knockhill Circuit in Scotland yesterday, Saturday, 12th April, to earn his maiden Avon Tyres British GT Championship race win – having earlier scorched to his first ever category pole position.

The Hampshire racer, who celebrated his 20th birthday on Wednesday, leapt to the top of the times a third of the way through the 15-minute qualifying session with a superb lap of 51.129 seconds (89.51mph), over a 10th of a second quicker than fellow CR Scuderia runner Michael Meadows at the short 1.28-mile Fife track.

Beginning the one-hour endurance encounter from the best possible place on the grid, Jeremy maintained his advantage as the race got underway even though rain just prior to the start had threatened to cause problems.

Each time he built up a gap, the Safety Car was deployed and so Jeremy’s lead would be negated. The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star coped superbly with everything the opening stint could throw at him though and was never headed.

Handing the car over to Luke Hines as the third Safety Car period took place, Jeremy’s team-mate went on to steer the No.16 Ferrari 430 GT3 home five and a half seconds clear of the second placed Trimite Brookspeed Viper Competition Coupe. After such an outstanding win for the pair, the Metcalfe/Hines partnership is now firmly in the title race.

Commenting on his debut victory in sportscars, during only his second weekend in the category, a delighted Jeremy said: “It feels great to get our first win. It was tricky at the start as the track was pretty greasy after the rain. I took it easy for the first few laps and made sure I didn’t make any mistakes, especially as the Safety Car came out three times during my stint.

“This stopped us building up a decent gap but it was okay as Luke went out there and did a great job. I want to say thanks to the team who all did a fantastic job, each and every one of them.”

During the second 15-minute qualifying session yesterday afternoon, Hines posted the fourth fastest time of 51.119 seconds (89.53mph). For today’s one-hour race, Hines will start and Jeremy will take over the car for the second stint.

The faultless performance shown during round three lifts Jeremy and Luke into joint fifth position in the headline GT3 Class standings on 10 points, just one point adrift of third place heading into this afternoon’s fourth round of the season.

Warm-up ahead of the fourth round of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship is timetabled to take place later this morning, Sunday, 13th April, at 10.53 with the race itself set to get underway at 13.38.
