Brundle, Newey, Horner and Hoare star in Sussex

Cars International Kensington became the catalyst for GP past and present to star at the Goodwood Revival race meeting in Sussex last week end, known for its detailed step back in time and pure period racing.

ITV F1 commentator and former GP star Martin Brundle teamed with F1 design legend Adrian Newey in a lightweight Jaguar E Type supplied by Cars international to the Red Bull design chief.

At a pre qualifying dinner organised by Cars International to  celebrate  brother Robin’s  birthday,  Martin  described  his  tactics  for  the  prestigious  2-driver Royal  Automobile  Club  TT celebration race.

 “I’m going to give it ninety percent, that way I can leave a margin for error – just in case!” said the Le Mans winner and former Benetton F1 team mate to Michael Schumacher.

The F1 duo of Newey and Brundle went on to set pole position for the race of the stars which included twice World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi. Adrian Newey proved his undoubted talent despite his lack of experience to hold a fine 4th before handing over to Brundle in the pit stop but a broken throttle stop delayed the team with Martin rejoining 9th. However, the GP star set successive fastest laps to claw his way to the podium, 3rd for the F1 alliance of design and television but had there been a margin for error?

 “I had to drive flat out as we wanted to win, it was so disappointing. As the mechanic was wedged under the dash trying to fix the throttle I didn’t have enough room to get the belts on, we lost over thirty seconds,” said Brundle.

Not content  with  supplying  some  of  the  orld’s  finest  cars  for  road  or track use, Cars  International  Director  Paul  Osborn entered the rare and beautiful company owned Ferrari 250 Competition Lusso in the same event. Driver duties were shared with Team Principal of Red Bull Racing Christian Horner(pictured left).

The pair finished the fast and furious 1-hour event with the pristine Ferrari in fine fettle. “The car and the event were brilliant. I thoroughly enjoyed both, the Cars International team do a fantastic job  preparing  what  I  am  sure  was  the  best  presented  car  and  I  really  appreciated  all  the  help  and  assistance.  I  said a big thank  you  to  Paul  and  to  Tim  Preston  who  heads  up  the  service  division  for  such  a  pleasurable  car  to  drive  in  such  a prestigious event,” said an enthusiastic Horner. 

Whilst F1 present was absorbed with Goodwood Revival racing, Cars International’s Jonathan Kaiser and John Barlow dealt with the past, entertaining customers as they viewed some of the valuable stock displayed in a wonderfully recreated setting of the original Maranello Concessionaires just inside the main gate of the Goodwood circuit. Said Jonathan, “It was an honour to continue our tradition of taking part in every Goodwood Revival meeting and to be part of the tribute to the legendary Colonel Ronnie Hoare.

The Goodwood representation was uncannily accurate even down to his sales desk and surrounding memorabilia. Customers old and new enjoyed the experience and we are grateful to Lord March and his team for involving us in so many of their activities at the important Revival meeting.” Whilst Cars International can always be counted on to bring the past to life with important historical cars, many now know that through their F1 links the present Grand Prix experience can be brought to life for a much broader range of customers through their state of the art FV10 driver /ownership programme
