Continued from News Dan Takes On America’s Best
Seattle, WA / Aldershot, Hampshire – Aldershot-based racing driver Dan Boys continued his short track apprenticeship in NASCAR racing last week, placing his first 2007 championship points on the board at Seattle’s Evergreen Speedway. Dan returned to competition with Concept Racing on the venue’s tight, unpredictable 0.375-mile oval for the fourth and fifth races of the NASCAR All-American Series. A frustrating start to his return with handling and brake gremlins in practise limited the Brit to just six flying laps before time trials, and a best qualifying time of 18.9 seconds put Boys’ no. 5 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the outside of the seventh row for the night’s main event. An incident-littered feature under the floodlights with more than half a dozen restarts kept the entire field close for all 50 laps. Some competitive race restarts from the Brit enabled him to edge his way towards the top-10 in the closing stages before a late race lunge into turn one by local veteran Travis Powell bumped him down to eleventh. 6.1 seconds separated Dan and winner John Zaretzke at the chequered flag. ‘Getting another opportunity to drive alongside some of the best short-track drivers in America has been a fantastic experience.’ Dan commented on his return to NASCAR. ‘I’m pleased that we’ve made an earlier start to our racing this year compared to previous seasons, as it means we have more opportunities to get back for additional races if our budget allows. It has always been a lack of track time that has been the biggest hurdle and, while we just missed out on a top-10 result we still recorded another lead-lap finish. We’ve proved we can race hard at this level and with some extra resources we’ll be running up front on a regular basis soon. I’m sure that first NASCAR win is just around the corner!’ This result coupled with a fifteenth place finish the following week means that Dan now sits comfortably inside the top-twenty in the speedway’s points championship despite only taking part in two of the season’s first five races. Dan’s next appearance will be on ‘Mid-Season Championship’ night next month and he would like to thank title sponsor The Limo People UK for their continued support. In order to raise a budget for additional test time Dan is offering British racing fans the chance to ‘adopt’ him as their driver for the remainder of the season. For a small charge fans can get their name on the side of the team’s NASCAR race car for two events and also receive a souvenir pack that charts the team’s progress through the year. Information on the team and adopting Europe’s only current NASCAR driver can be found at www.danielboys.co.uk or on 07768 067 506.
