Full house for Matech Racing at Silverstone

A few days before the official start of the European FIA GT3 Championship at Silverstone, the Swiss Matech Racing team has announced it’s drivers.

Having recently announced that Jürgen Von Gartzen and Luca Pirri will be at the wheel of the team’s Ford GT,  which Pirri recently tested at Nogaro, they have now announced two further drivcer pairings.  Present since the start of the Matech GT Racing adventure in FIA GT3, German Thomas Mutsch had previously teamed up last season with the Swiss driver Martin Bartek, the man who actually runs the team. The latter has now decided to concentrate fully on managing  and as such British driver Ian Khan has been brought in to partner Mutsch’s for the championship.  

Ian Khan, 47 years young, resident in Monaco,  is well versed with the GT3, having competed with a Ferrari for the last two seasons. Khan  has competed in single-seaters (F3 and F3000) before moving to Touring and Grand Touring cars. In addition he has several 24 Hours of Le Mans races under his belt. It goes without saying that together with the German Thomas Mutsch, who in also started in single-seaters as well as the German V8 Star series, they will undoubtedly form a highly motivated and competitive team... 

At the wheel of the third Ford GT will be Britain’s Edward Morris and Bradley Ellis, who in fact only competed in one FIA GT3 meeting last year at Monza. Where they finished 2nd and 3rd. Ellis is also the 2007 British GT Champion.   

In close collaboration with Ford Racing, Matech is also entering three Ford Mustang FR500GT3s this season. These spectacular beasts look the business and have improved performance since 2007. Having previously announced the Canadian Scott Maxwell and the Belgian Eric De Doncker, winner of the GT4 European Cup last year, the Swiss team has confirmed they will be at Silverstone driven by Frenchman Romain Bera and the Belgian Stefan Van Campenhoudt.

As for the third Ford Mustang FR500GT3, it will be driven by a Frenchman Thierry Blaise, gentleman driver stemming from the Club Europa who will be teaming up with a British driver Nigel Greensall,

Matech look the part and should go well at Silverstone for round 1 of the  European FIA GT3 championship. The team run their cars within the framework of a "fully supported by Ford Racing US" programme, the outcome of an exclusive partnership concluded last year and covering the entire European continent.
