geared up for Goodwood
London based
classic car dealership Fiskens will be back at the world famous Goodwood
Revival meeting this weekend showing off some of the rarest and most
celebrated racing machinery from the last 50 years.
The event, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, has been
attended by the Kensington company since the first Revival back in 1998,
helping to establish it as the classic motorsport festival.
Managing Director Gregor Fisken will once again be behind the wheel,
this year piloting Burkhard Von Schenk’s Maserati 250F, the same model
as used by Juan Manual Fangio during his 1954 and ‘57 title triumphs.
Gregor, who has previously won the TT at Goodwood, will be mixing it
with some of the sport’s most recognizable names and machines in the
Richmond and Gordon Trophy race for rear-engined Formula One cars used
between 1954 and 1961 which will be ran around the former Sussex Grand
Prix circuit.
The new-for-2008 ‘Earls Court Motorshow’ also features two of Fiskens’
finest examples, an ex Ford France GT40 as well as a very rare 1966
Ferrari 275 GTB Competition car (pictured). There will also be a chance
to see Sales Manager Will Stone driving his immaculate Ausper in the
Formula junior race, the 1950s’ answer to Formula 3.
“The Revival is the jewel in the crown of historic events and it’s great
to have been associated with it for 10 years now” said Gregor. “We
always love coming and contributing to the fantastic array cars on
display and I’m sure that we’ll still be here in another decade or so.”
The Goodwood Revival is the world’s most popular historic motor race
meeting and the only event of its kind to be staged in the romantic time
capsule of the Fifties and Sixties. Its visitors, teams and drivers are
urged to dress in a style befitting the times so as to recreate the
golden era of motor sport. By way of thanks, the Revival delivers
exceptional wheel-to-wheel racing around a classic circuit, untouched by
the modern world.
Britain’s leading motorsport venue along with Silverstone between 1948
and 1966, it hosted contemporary racing of all kinds, including Formula
One, the famous Goodwood Nine Hours race and the celebrated Tourist
Trophy sports car race. Over the past decade, all have been recreated as
the popularity of classic racing continues to grow. Junior categories as
well as vintage saloon cars have also returned, joined by the ever
popular Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy for motorcycles.
Many of these important historic racing cars are driven by famous faces
from motor sport past and present. This year alone for instance Sir
Stirling Moss, Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Jackie Stewart, Derek Bell, Emerson
Fitipaldi, Jacky Ickx, Henri Pescarolo and Wayne Gardner will all taking
to the track
