Patrick Barrett
will celebrate his graduation from high school with a return to
competition in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown
Royal Cask No. 16 GT class this weekend, June 20-21 at the Mid Ohio
Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio
Barrett and PR1 Motorsports co-driver Canadian Mike Forest will share
the Pontiac GXP.R at Mid-Ohio when they attempt to top their 10th place
finish at Virginia International Raceway in April, the rookie team’s
best result so far this season. Forest was paired with another PR1
driver, Thomas Merrill, in the Six Hours at the Glen at Watkins Glen 2
weeks ago and scored a very respectable 12th place in the team’s longest
race to date.
“I’ve never been to Mid-Ohio, but I have been told it’s a classic road
course and is quite technical. The team had a positive result in their
previous event so I look forward to continuing our good progress.”
Barrett from Los Osos, California, at 18 the youngest driver in the GT
field, graduated 5th in his high school class on June 11. He raced in
England as a member of 2007 Team USA Scholarship and ended the 2007
Pacific F2000 Championship as its’ champion and all time race win record
holder.
“Graduating from high school is a great feeling. I know it’s not race
related, but it is positive energy that I am carrying into this
weekend,” said Barrett. “I’ve been improving my physical training since
Virginia so I’m interested in seeing what difference there will be in my
performance.” “I want to thank my personal sponsors Kolliner-Long
Gallery based in Cambria, California and Alpinestars for their
tremendous support. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today doing
what I love.”
PR1’s road racing car is a rear wheel drive Pontiac (G6) GXP.R with a
tubular space-frame steel chassis and carbon-fiber and steel body which
is home to a 6.0L LS2 V-8 that produces 450 brake horsepower and is
mated to a 5-speed manual sequential gearbox.
