Team JAG BTCC 2008 John George Crashes Car
Yesterday (22/02/08) John George, owner of JAG Communications and HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship driver crashed his Honda Integra Type R during a routine testing session at Rockingham Oval due to a puncture. (See picture, courtesy of TH Motorsport) The data trace stopped recording when the car impacted with the wall at 190 kph. It appears to have happened as George was going into Turn One on the Oval, where there is still the red paint from the vehicles bodywork. The car is currently under serious repair work and John George was lucky to have avoided severe injury. Operations director of Team JAG* Andy Whitaker said: “We were all concerned for John’s safety. All I saw were sparks and what looked like fire coming from underneath the car as he tried to bring it to a halt.” Up until that point; John George had been making very good time and was well on track to beating his qualifying time from last year.“If this hadn’t happened” said John George “we would have smashed our time from last year.” Andy Whitaker added: “Up until then the data showed that John was driving very well indeed.” Rockingham Operations Manager Steve Hammond said:“Under the FIA and MSA directive we were required to put 2 new curbs at posts MSA 10 and MSA 19. These were installed at the end of last season in time for the British F3/GT meeting at Rockingham in September 2007. As a result of the new curbing teams are given the chance to drive the circuit before putting their cars on the track. However, since the installation of the curbing we have not received any reports of drivers experiencing any difficulties.” TH Motorsport is currently pulling the car apart and hopes to have any resulting problems fixed in the near future
