Juno Racing Start The VdeV Championship With Gusto

Five Junos Placed In The Top Seven Of VdeV UK Opener

Juno Racing made a great start to the new VdeV UK Championship held at Donington Park with five of their six cars finishing in the top seven.

Juno Racing ran Rob Croydon & Adrian Mardlin, in their VdeV EU Championship winning Juno SSE-CN, Neill Briggs & Andreas Halkiopoulos and Dave Mountain & Will Curtis. The team where also on hand to offer support to other teams running the Junos of Graham Fennymore & Chris Bialan, Duncan Williams & Tony Freeman and Sarah Reader & Ryan Hooker.

With rain always threatening, the start to the race seemed even more hectic for the field of twenty-one cars than usual. Included in those spinning in the early laps of the race was Duncan Williams; emulating his partner Tony Freeman who had showed great pace in qualifying, he battled back from the rear of the field to hand over, at the driver change-over in 2nd place. But with two punctures and a master cylinder failure they went back down the field and then out of the race. With all the ifs, buts and maybes associated with racing, it was a disappointing end to a race that they had a good chance of winning.

Meanwhile, with the remaining five Junos having made relentless progress and with forty-five minutes to go, Graham Fennymore was leading the race. Rob Croydon was 2nd, Andreas Halkiopoulos was 3rd, Sarah Reader 6th and Will Curtis 7th. A safety car at forty minutes to go played to Rob Garofall’s advantage who took the lead from Graham in a strong charge.

The final standings saw the Juno runners finish: 2nd Fennymore/Bialan, 3rd Croydon/Mardlin, 4th Briggs/ Halkiopoulos, 5th Reader/Hooker and 7th Mountain/Curtis.

It was an excellent Juno weekend and Team boss Ewan Baldry was justifiably delighted. “We had four first-time partnerships running Junos in this race, some with little experience of endurance racing. Chris Bialan drove out of his skin in the first part of the race and Graham matched the speed of the professional drivers throughout.

“With such a finishing line-up you can imagine how pleased I am” he concluded.

SOLID VDEV-EU START FOR JUNO RACING

Juno Racing Take Top Ten Finishes In VdeV-EU Opener At Jarama

Reigning Champions Juno Racing made a solid start at the VdeV-EU opener at Jarama. Five Junos were present, run over three teams, making it the largest Juno presence in VdeV-EU to date.

Rob Croydon (pictured)  and Adrian Mardlin were solid runners throughout the race, leading at the driver handover as Juno’s strategy proved to be a further bonus to the car’s pace. However, the tight and twisty nature of the track mixed with safety car interventions were never going to make this an easy run to the flag. Rob and Adrian finished just shy of the podium in 4th place.

Also running were Richard Bernans and Chris Ward. Richard and Chris proved to be the fastest Juno pairing in qualifying but disaster struck with Chris having a large off. Thankfully Chris was unhurt but the car was heavily damaged and unable to take part in Sunday’s race.

Taking the opportunity to have their first VdeV-EU race, Graham Fennymore and Chris Bialan travelled to Jarama with their 2005 Juno. The pair will be contesting this year’s inaugural VdeV-UK Championship and Jarama proved a great setting to whet their appetite for the season ahead. The duo qualified in 13th and put in an impressive and enthusiastic drive before Graham had a terminal off into the gravel just after 3 hours, seeing their registered finish as 23rd.

Jean-Louis Bianchina and Jean-Francois Yvon enjoyed a strong showing in their first ever race in a Juno, run by Juno Racing France. The pair finished in 9th place and look set for a successful debut season.

Their compatriots Michael Ghio and Philippe Papin ran in the Juno Racing Portugal car and also found great pace in their first Juno outing.  The pair finished in 15th after requiring a brake bleed one hour from the end as they experiment with the set up of their new drive.

After the race Team Director Ewan Baldry commented “Jarama is a tough circuit, especially in terms of the tight corners. We’ve come away from the weekend with plenty of ideas we’ll be perfecting to get the very best cornering out of the cars. It has certainly heightened the excitement for the upcoming opening round of the VdeV-UK at Donington, a track we know the Junos flow on.”
