24 hour Vauxhall VXR sports car challenge

Millbrook Proving Ground

The Le Mead Charity event raises £3000 in aid of Leukaemia Research

T
he Le Mead Charity event  took in over £3000 for Leukaemia research over the weekend when the team Le Mead completed the 24 hours driving challenge by driving 1800 miles within the allocated 24 hours  at the Millbrook proving Ground.

With approximately 400 people attending,  mainly friends and family of Steve Mead they raised. money with Raffle Sales and a Tombola and with the help of professional drivers giving up their time to offer visitors an opportunity to be driven around the Millbrook Track in an Aston Martin DBS and a 6.0l Vauxhall Minaro. There were also 4x4 off road rides and a chance to have a tour around the 750 acre Millbrook site and its appears a good time was had by all.

During the event  even better news arrived when Steve Mead,  learned that a match for a bone marrow transplant had been found and he can therefore, look forward with optimism that the match will lead to a full recovery in the new year.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped with the event.

Latest overall total  is £5,333.85 , more inforMation can be found on www.justgiving.com/lemead

Le Mead 24 hours

Policeman Steve Mead from Luton in Bedfordshire has been diagnosed with Acute Adult Lymphoblastic Leukaemia; a very rare and aggressive Leukaemia. Steve Mead is a fit, healthy 22 year old who has never had a puff of a cigarette or any alcohol in his life! was diagnosed with 'ALL' on Thursday 23 August 2007 which has  left Steve, his family and his close friends all very shocked.!

Steve who has an avid passion for cars and motoring .and his friend and colleague Matt Crouch decided to help Leukemia Research  by organizing a racing themed event to involve his family and friends. So along with the help of some high profile companies the Le Mead' event was born ( as opposed to 'Le Mans')!

Millbrook Proving Ground have donated their race track for 24 hours free of charge. General Motors and Vauxhall are providing a number of cars for the challenge including a Vauxhall VXR sports car as the main Team Le Mead vehicle. Aston Martin have donated a V8 Vantage, Goodyear are supplying tyres and TF Music record label are providing professional acts for live music.

Le Mead racing will take place from 1500hrs on Saturday 8th through to 1600hrs on Sunday 9th December with the driving challenge ending at 1500hrs

So at 3 pm on Saturday 1500hrs the Chief Constable of the Bedfordshire Police will start the race and for ‘24 hours Team Le Mead’ . The Luton Police team of 6 plan to complete 1800 miles around the Millbrook in the 24 hour period..

They hope to raise money for Leukaemia Research Charity by a number of ways. Firstly people can sponsore them at www.justgiving.com/lemead. Second tehy are selling a limited number of passes to the public so they can attend on Sunday and take part in a number of activities and watch live music in the events indoor arena. Passes can be purchased by calling 07775 825186 or 07775 825415.

A third method of raising cash involves those attending who can pay for drives around the other Millbrook race tracks in the Aston and Vauxhall sports cars, including the chance to see around the Millbrook track, a very rare opportunity.

So if you can’t get there get onto the Website and donate…please   www.justgiving.com/lemead.
