editorthegrid@yahoo.co.uk New Mygale Formula 3 M-08
In 2008, Mygale again takes up the challenge to Dallara with the release of its new Formula 3 car, the Mygale M-08F3. Their engineering team has completed a new design benefiting from the experience of the début season with the M-07F3, concentrating on major improvements in the aerodynamics package and the chassis dynamics. The result is the fruits of wind tunnel work capitalising on the last three years on the previous car and integrating all the latest trends in the new 2008 car. With no carry-over body components, the new car sports high nose, heavily curved sidepods with deep undercut, spliter deflector, canards and suspension farings, sidepod floor extension, rear wheel deflector and with optional addition cooling 'chimneys' for hot weather. A huge amount of work has been dedicated to monocoque improvements with significant increases in rigidity, a big reduction in monocoque weight and revised packaging which leaves more freedom for aerodynamic development and the possibility to accommodate taller drivers. All new suspension upright designs coupled to the use of much bigger bearings give a massive improvement suspension stiffness, component lifetime, and braking consistency. The pedal box is all new, with the latest Brembo F3 monoblock caliper and disc package as standard fit. The engineering team has increased the range of adjustability in both the front and rear suspensions allowing a wide range of anti dive, anti squat and roll centre permutations. Standard front suspension installation is with twin Koni dampers but customers may also order a monoshock alternative. Adjustable bump and droop travel limiters are available front and rear. The cooling package is significantly increased and improved over the old car to allow optimum operation of the F3 engines throughout the season. Although the Mygale M-08F3 is more than 95% all-new it is a logical evolution of the 2007 car, keeping the strengths of the M-07F3 like low centre of gravity and rear pull road suspension with its remarkably good traction off the start line. Even with raised ride height due to the new for 2008 regulation skid block, the M-08F3 has gained in aerodynamic performance. First circuit tests for the Mygale M-08F3 have given very positive driver feedback and lap time improvements, straight out of the box, over the old car. Further testing is planned to continue set-up optimisation and to incorporate more aerodynamic developments not yet integrated into the circuit testing programme.
