When the Safety-Car came out, Nico was nearer, but I maintained a strong pace without taking too many risks, because there was such much oil on the track and it was easy to make a mistake”. The win moves Parente to sixth in the points.  “It was fantastic to win this race and be able to offer to Ocean Racing Technology its first victory. However, now we have to focus in tomorrow’s race. I’ll start from eighth and I’ll give my best to reach another strong result”,

Porsche carrera Cup - Tim Bridgman took a double pole position for rounds 15 and 16 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Silverstone today (Saturday 29 August 2009). Meanwhile, Glynn Geddie topped pro-am1 for both races and series newcomer John Gaw headed pro-am2.By taking pole for both races and therefore two championship points, it was an important session for Bridgman (Team Parker Racing) who pared Tim Harvey's overall lead to just two points. "We got the job done on one set of tyres and we've got that nice little cushion again," said Bridgman.  "I'm just going to go for two wins; the safest place to be is in the lead." To add to Bridgman's joy, arch-rival Harvey (Red Line Racing) will start fourth for both races, behind Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance) and James Sutton (Red Line Racing). Caine will be second on the grid for round 15, while Sutton will start second for round 16. Another superb performance from Glynn Geddie (Team Parker Racing) netted fifth overall and top pro-am1 slot on both grids. "We did what we needed to do; that's two more points," said Geddie as he battles to narrow the gap to pro-am1 leader Robert Lawson (JHR). However, Geddie is far from clear in pro-am1 as Tony Gilham (Red Line Racing) and Ollie Jackson (Motorbase Performance) both qualified less than a fifth of a second adrift of the young Scot. Right up among the leading pro-am1 times was pro-am2 pacesetter John Gaw (Team Kinfaun) after a hugely impressive performance ahead of his first Carrera Cup race. He qualified seventh overall for round 15 and tenth overall for round 16. Karl Leonard (Team Parker Racing) was second best in pro-am2 for both races, while Paul Hogarth (IN2 Racing) and Glenn McMenamin (Parr Motorsport) shared third and fourth slots in the category. With Gaw and Leonard not in the running for the pro-am2 title, the battle between Hogarth, McMenamin and Bob Lyons (Celtic Speed) will be central to their season-long championship contest

Alvaro has always gone well at Spa. Saying,  “I strongly enjoy Spa-Francorchamps, it’s a circuit where the driver still makes the difference and to achieve my first GP2 pole-position here it’s very special for me”. He is now  focused on tomorrow’s race but the he knows it won’t be easy to win. “We are where we wanted to be, but tomorrow’s race will be very hard. Porsche Carrera Cup GB - Glynn Geddie set the pace ahead of rounds 15 and 16 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Silverstone today (Friday 29 August 2009).  James Sutton was second fastest while Karl Leonard headed pro-am2. In a day that left the top times rather shuffled, Geddie (Team Parker Racing) set a best lap of 57.720s to top the testing times for the first time in his career. He also headed pro-am1, but cautioned that the qualifying pace could on Saturday morning could be faster still. "I'm pleased to be first," said the young Scot. "But most of the pro drivers were not on new rubber and I never really got the best out of my new tyres."  Sutton (Red Line Racing) headed the times in the first session, which started dry but was almost immediately hit by a heavy rain shower. Conditions then improved, but the track was never fully dry. In the dry afternoon session, Sutton made a late switch to new tyres, but felt he should have been faster. "That's probably not far off, and the car feels good for qualifying." Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance), Tim Bridgman (Team Parker Racing) and Tim Harvey (Red Line Racing) were next up, and were very evenly matched as they all ran on tyres that had been used in the previous race weekend at Knockhill. "The car feels right," said Caine, who was one of three drivers to top the timesheets during the final three minutes of testing. Title contenders Bridgman and Harvey were content with their pace and are likely to jump to the top of the times when new tyres go on for qualifying. Sixth fastest overall and second in pro-am1 was Robert Lawson (JHR), while seventh overall and top pro-am2 was Karl Leonard (Team Parker Racing). Pro-am1 contenders Tony Gilham (Red Line Racing) and Ollie Jackson (Motorbase Performance) both ran strongly to take eighth and ninth fastest, while championship newcomer John Gaw (Team Kinfaun) was an impressive tenth fastest overall and second in pro-am2.

WTCC - Rounds 17th and 18th of the FIA WTCC will take place next week in Germany, at Oschersleben's Motorsport Arena on September 6th. The German track, located in the Bode region some 30 km from the city of Magdeburg, is a traditional venue for the FIA Touring Cars having hosted the European Touring Car Championship from 2001 to 2004 and the WTCC from 2005. Oschersleben is regarded as BMW's home circuit because the BMW drivers have managed to win twelve out of the fourteen S2000 races held there so far, with Andy Priaulx claiming four victories. The Bavarian cars were only defeated at Oschersleben twice by SEAT. Last year's races were won by BMW Team Germany's Augusto Farfus and BMW Team Italy-Spain's Félix Porteiro.

The WTCC in Oschersleben opens the final part of the season and it will be followed by the last European meeting (Imola, 20th September) and the long leap to the Far East (Okayama, 1st November and Macau, 22nd November). With 8 races to go, the fight for the world titles is wide open. Three men are covered by only six points in the Drivers' Championship: Yvan Muller (82 points), Gabriele Tarquini (77) and Augusto Farfus (76). But with 80 points still at stake, four others may also have a shot at the title: Rickard Rydell (54), Robert Huff (53), Jörg Müller (52) and Andy Priaulx (48). In the Manufacturers' Championship only 10 points separate the leader SEAT from BMW. In the Independents' Trophy, Félix Porteiro has a 16-point lead ahead of Tom Coronel, while Franz Engstler is a further 25 points adrift.

Despite the decision of SEAT Holland to stop funding his participation to the FIA WTCC, Tom Coronel is determined to finish the season. Earlier this week SEAT's Dutch importer Pon Car, announced the decision to stop the WTCC programme after the events in Oschersleben and Imola, due to financial reasons related to the decrease in car sales."It is a big disappointment, because Japan and Macau are very special places to me. I fully respect the motivations behind the Pon Car's decision. They have always given me tremendous support and the fact that I have been racing in WTCC for the last five years is fully due to their efforts. However, myself and SUNRED Engineering are keen to finish the season, especially as we are still in contention for the Independents' Trophy. So we are looking for the budget that will enable us to race in Okayama and Macau. I never give up, so I will try everything I can to complete this mission," said Coronel.

Two Danish drivers will join the championship at Oschersleben: Michel Nykjær and Jason Watt(pictured), their first appearance in the WTCC. Nykjær, currently second in the Danish Touring Car Championship behind James Thompson and twice a winner of the FIA European Touring Car Cup (2007 and 2008), will be at the wheel of a Chevrolet Lacetti car run by Perfection Racing. As this is the first time in the current season a Lacetti is entered in the championship, Watt, who is currently fourth in the Danish Touring Car Championship, will drive a petrol-powered SEAT León entered by Team Bygma. His previous and only appearance in the FIA Touring Cars dates back to the 2004 European Championship, when he raced at Donington in a Peugeot 307.Watt's racing career suffered a serious blow in 1999; after finishing runner up in the FIA Formula 3000 championship he lost the use of his legs following a motorcycle crash. He came back the year after, using driving aid systems to race in touring cars, and in 2002 he managed to clinch the Danish title.

Formula 3 - The 46-year old tradition of Australia’s fastest racing cars visiting Oran Park raceway will come to a close this weekend following the running of round six of the 2009 Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship for the CAMS Gold Star. 2006 V8 Supercar Champion Rick Kelly (pictured right) clinched his first major title at Oran Park back in 2001 in a Birrana Racing Formula Holden where after 2 victories he had enough points to take Gold Star.

Star Mazda - Chris Cumming, the reigning Expert Series Champion (drivers aged 30 – 44) of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear will take on a different challenge this weekend.  Instead of driving his #16 World Speed Motorsports racing car he will be making his Ironman debut in the 28th annual Ironman Canada.

European Late Model Series - One week after the European Late Model Series debut at Ipswich , the thundering V8s returned to Warneton. In the baking heat of the Belgium summer the Late Models put on an awesome show. Heat one went to Daniel Boys in the #5 Roots V8 Racing Chevrolet. He managed to hold off Bruce Andrews in the #17 Chevrolet for the entire race and a late charge by Kelvin Hassell in the #13 Ready2Race Pontiac Grand Prix who took second off of Andrews in the last lap. Heat two looked like it would belong to Xavier Vandermeersch until Raptor Racing’s Jos Jansen muscled Xavier out of the way for the win. Gary Ellis came through for second while Vandermeersch was collecting the #19 Dodge. Hassell was next in line but was unable to capitalise before the finish line. The final was dominated by Christof Vanderckhove who took over the #4 Roots V8 Racing rental car and held off Gary Ellis in a gripping final that saw the two drivers battle side by side lap after lap. Dan Boys spun to bring out the yellows and close the field up. Vandermeersch was rewarded for his flamboyant driving style by gaining third place but was unable to move on the battling Roots Racing cars in front of him.  The European Late Model Series is shown on Motors TV, channel 413 on Sky

Porsche Carrera Cup GB After back-to-back wins at his home race at Knockhill ten days ago, Glynn Geddie is on a roll as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB heads to Silverstone this weekend. Aberdonian Geddie had class wins at both Snetterton and Knockhill which has moved him from 4th to 2nd in the Pro-Am 1 category behind Robert Lawson. "It's a crucial stage in the championship now so it's imperative we get every point we can over our rivals", underlined Geddie. "We're in a very strong position now, so as long as we can build on the form we've been displaying, stay focused and keep it together, there's no reason why we can't go for two more wins this weekend."

The hugely successful Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship Programme will be repeated in 2010. Created and run by Porsche Cars GB, the '£100,000 'Carrera Cup GB Scholarship Programme' will provide £50,000 to each of two young drivers to use as a significant element of their budget for the 2010 Carrera Cup GB season. In 2009, the Scholarship winners were Tom Bradshaw and Lewis Hopkins, who were selected from more than 50 applicants. Adidas will be a key partner for the 2010 Carrera Cup GB Scholarship Programme and will be supplying a range of equipment for the six finalists and on-going support to the winners throughout the season. To enter the scholarship, drivers must be aged between 17 and 22 at 1 January 2010, already have a National A race licence and have not previously raced in the Carrera Cup GB. They must also be able to demonstrate that they can secure the balance of the required budget for a full season of racing. There is no charge for drivers entering the scholarship. Tom Bradshaw: “It has been brilliant for me. Without the scholarship, I wouldn’t have been here,” he said. “It came around at exactly the right time for me. It has been great for me physically as well; the guys at the Porsche Human Performance Centre have really helped me progress my fitness. I definitely want to do a second year in the Carrera Cup and I really want to stay with Team Parker Racing.” Lewis Hopkins: “It’s been a life-changing step up the racing ladder for me,” he said. “Without the scholarship I wouldn’t have been able to make this move and it has put my racing on a different level. I’m already looking to do Carrera Cup again next year and build on the experience of this season.”
Applications have now opened and will close on 25 September. Six finalists will then be selected for a two-day assessment at Silverstone, with the first day spent at the Porsche Driving Experience Centre followed by track tests on the second day in the latest 911GT3 Cup car. The winners, to be selected by an expert judging panel, will be the two drivers who show the best mix of natural talent, potential, presentation and people skills and overall drive and commitment. "The first year of the Carrera Cup Scholarship has been a great success and we are delighted with the performance of Tom and Lewis," said Marion Barnaby. "Now the time has come to start the search the 2010 Scholarship drivers and we are expecting a very strong line-up of candidates." Any driver wishing to apply for the Carrera Cup GB Scholarship Programme should send a c.v. to carreracupgb@porsche.co.uk, along with the reasons why they think they should be selected. DTM - Gary Paffett is on a mission to regain the lead in the DTM when the German Touring Car Championship pays its only UK visit to Brands Hatch on 4/5/6 September.  Paffett, who races a 2009 Mercedes C Class, has already taken two victories this season and led the DTM title chase until the last round at Oschersleben earlier this month. However, after qualifying down the grid due to an engine misfire, Paffett was only able to finish eighth in the race, which meant he slipped back to third in the overall standings behind Audi's Timo Scheider and Mattias Ekstrom.  2005 DTM title winner Paffett is one of six British drivers competing in this year's DTM contest, and he is determined to use his home advantage to score valuable championship points. Gary Paffett said: "For me, the DTM race at Brands Hatch is the highlight of the season every year. It's a great pleasure to drive in my home country, in front of my friends and relatives. At Brands Hatch me and my team will do everything to reduce our gap to the championship leader. I am sure the British fans will support me well." 28-year-old Paffett is also a test driver for the McLaren Mercedes F1 team, and fellow Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton will be making an appearance at the Kent circuit on raceday (Sunday 6 September).  Paffett added: "I especially look forward to the visit of my Formula One team colleague and incumbent Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton to Brands Hatch, who I know extremely well from our collaboration at Vodafone McLaren Mercedes." Tickets for the DTM German Touring Car Championship on 4/5/6 September cost from £25 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. GP2 - This weekend’s GP2 races at Spa should suit Alvaro Parente as he has always gone well at the Belgian track. After a promising showing in Valencia, Parente is in a confident mood. "At Valencia we were competitive and just some bad luck prevented us of getting a hand full of points. I think that we can be competitive again at Spa-Francorchamps, because our car should suit well to the Belgian circuit". Parente won at the circuit in Formula Renault 3.5 and took pole during his British F3 days before coming second last year in his GP2 debut season. The Portuguese driver clearly likes the Ardennes circuit. "Spa-Francorchamps is one of my favourite circuits and I have always reached good results there -- I think it has a layout where the drivers still make the difference. Our goal for the next weekend is to be at the front and to fight for the top positions". Meanwhile the Ocean Racing Technology driver has accepted an invitation from Futebol Clube do Porto to drive it’s car in the Portuguese Superleague Formula round, held at the Autodromo do Estoril next week. "It was an in invitation that I, the Polaris Sports and the team couldn't refused, because it's such an honour to defend Futebol Clube do Porto's colours. It's an opportunity to race again at Portugal, after more than one year far from the Portuguese circuits. It's a championship with which I'm not familiar with, but I know that it is very competitive. As I usually do, I'll give my best and I'll try to achieve the best result I can”. For now Alvaro is focused on GP2 and Spa.

BERU f1systems is launching a North American operation to support customers and expand sales of its performance engineering solutions. With an initial emphasis on the company’s core professional motorsport market, UK-headquartered BERU f1systems seeks to increase local customer support for its tyre pressure monitoring systems – including its new revolutionary infra-red technology, composites,  wiring harnesses and strain gauging equipment, among other components and systems for which it is known in international motorsport categories including NASCAR, ALMS and IndyCar. Heading up the North American operation, based in Indianapolis, is Steve Stover who brings extensive motorsports experience, having previously managed the US operations for Pi Research. “We are delighted to have Steve, as well as his knowledge and contacts, on board as part of bf1systems’ international growth strategy,” says John Bailey, managing director of BERU f1systems. “We look forward to providing a fast, local and dedicated service to existing and new customers in North America, and to eventually diversifying into the automotive, aerospace, defence and marine markets.”  Stover added, “While BERU f1systems is an established player in IndyCar with its wiring and tyre pressure monitoring systems, there is huge potential for its full, superior product range including stress measurement equipment, load cells and electronics, and we need to target categories such as NASCAR and the other series where we have limited presence. Having a team on the ground or at the end of the phone in the same time zone will surely help the North American motorsport market realise the benefits of BERU f1systems’ products.”

BRDC - At an EGM convened at Silverstone on Tuesday 25 August, the Members of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) voted overwhelmingly to grant powers to their Board, authorising them to entertain offers of investment in Silverstone and its core land. It was reiterated that the BRDC Board would only consider deals upon terms which were clearly favourable to the long-term future of British motor sport and to the Club. The  BRDC’s  long  term  objective is to develop further Silverstone’s motor sport infrastructure, related technologies, education and training and to ensure that the UK continues to be the global leader in these specialist areas. Robert Brooks, Chairman of the BRDC said, “The resolutions proposed at this EGM called for the powers, granted to the Board at a previous EGM two years ago, to be extended  to  our core land. I am of course pleased with the outcome. It  further illustrates the BRDC’s commitment to Silverstone and to the future of British motor sport.” Damon Hill, President of the BRDC said “This vote is a significant result for the future  of  Silverstone. Today’s EGM was not about selling Silverstone. BRDC Members were voting on whether or not the Board should be authorised to approach and negotiate  deals,  with  potential  investors, on behalf of the Club. It is purely commercial. Silverstone is an  international sports arena and we are continuing with plans to develop it in keeping with the very highest standards. “The primary function of Silverstone will always be racing, hopefully with a Formula 1 British Grand Prix

Star Mazda - With three races remaining the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear can still be won by 12 drivers. Locals can cheer on two  Canadian drivers David Ostella (left), from Maple, Ontario and Michael Furfari from Toronto.

BTCCAn ex-F1 star and a Vulcan bomber set for BTCC debuts at Silverstone. Johnny Herbert is gearing up for debut BTCC drive with Team Dynamics while a Vulcan bomber will be taking to the skies for a Silverstone display this weekend (29/30  August). The  former  F1  driver  says  there couldn't be a better circuit than Silverstone, scene of his 1995 British GP victory - at which to get his first taste of the action that makes the BTCC such a hit with the public. Herbert has signed to race with Team Dynamics, speaking ahead of the weekend Herbert commented,  "I'm going to be going three or four abreast into corners for the first time since my Formula Ford and F3 days in the mid-Eighties.I'll be up against some of the best touring car names in the world with the likes of Matt Neal, Jason Plato and  Fabrizio  Giovanardi  and I've seen what these boys get up to along the way..scraping panels and having a wing mirror or bumper taken off is part of the game and it's something I'm going to have to adapt to quickly."  Herbert joins the BTCC grid at what could be a critical stage in the race for the title. Northern Ireland's Colin Turkington, aiming for his first Drivers' crown, will arrive at Silverstone leading the championship but by just nine points from Italian megastar Giovanardi, the BTCC champion for the past two years. Local  favourite  Jason  Plato and  Matt  Neal  are  also  still  in  with  a  realistic  chance  of  the  title.

"I'm delighted that Lawrence has given us the opportunity to compete in the Ginetta-Zytek." To complete the family outing, Le Mans Series regular Leo Mansell will also be racing at Silverstone in a Team Modena GT2-class Ferrari.

Drayson Racing expands portfolio.  Busy government minister Lord Paul Drayson has recently announced that the team will take the step up from the GT2 class to the pinnacle of sportscar racing, Le Mans Prototype One (LMP1). Drayson Racing will compete at the Autosport 1000km of Silverstone in the No. 87 Aston Martin Vantage GT2 car before making the switch to a Judd V10-powered Lola B09/60 Coupe for the Petit Le Mans race at Road Atlanta in the USA at the end of September. Lord Drayson will drive the car supported by young British talent Jonny Cocker, with Rob Bell an addition to the team for the Petit Le Mans race. As the UK government’s Science and Innovation Minister, Lord Drayson has a portfolio that stretches across both the Ministry of Defence and the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills. He achieved the feat earlier this year having already been welcomed back into his prominent government role.

Westfields - Peter Daglish made a winning return to the BARC Westfield series at Croft over the weekend, taking to the track in his new  works Aerorace 190M at. Despite Chris Davison’s very determined attempts to usurp  him,  Daglish did the double with two wins.

Porsche Club - The Porsche Club Championship makes its annual visit to Castle Combe this Bank Holiday Monday, August 31st, for the sixth meeting in a season that has provided some superb racing. At the front of the pack, the battle between Ben Demetriou and Mark McAleer has been a constant theme – Demetriou easing away in the win stakes aided by a double at Thruxton two weeks ago and now heading the Class One points – while in Class Two Jez Clark remains undefeated this season and continues to head the championship overall. While the front-engined 968s have been doing the winning, they have been put under pressure by the rear-engined Porsches. Scott Kavanagh put his 993 C2 on pole at Thruxton, the first pole for the model on its debut year in the championship, with Richard Ellis finishing well in his 993.  Kevin Harrison and Marcus Carniel are right the sharp end of the racing in their 964 C2s – the rear-engined cars always quick off the line at the start of the race as their weight distribution gives them superb traction. Others to watch for from Class One include Richard Higgins, rapid at Thruxton in his 968, and returning champion Richard Lambert, out in a 964. Leading the championship is reigning champion Jez Clark – who has stepped up to Class Two this year. Not only unbeaten in his class so far this season, Jez has twice qualified on the front row of the grid for races, and at Thruxton took two overall third place finishes. Leading the chase of Clark in Class Two has been Chris Dyer.

V de V - Started in 2001, the Dijon 6 Hours has become a major event in FFSA Série V de V calendar. With this race counting for the Championnat de France Endurance VHC and the Challenge Endurance VHC, it increasingly attracts more drivers each year. Modern cars are now catered for as well with two 3-hour races, one exclusively for the very fast 2-litre Sport prototypes and the other for the GT’s and the Tourisme category. The Challenge Funyo also provides plenty of excitement in the Sprint category.

Mini Challenge - Arthur Forster proved to be the man to beat in two of the three races in the Mini Challenge at Croft last weekend, however the third race ended up as a duel between Martin Depper and Oli Mortimer, rain eventually deciding the outcome in Mortimer’s favour. In the Club class though Luke Caudle took a clean sweep.

Radicals -  Paul Steele won his Radical Club Cup victory with a superb lights-to-flag display at Croft in Round 9 before Colin Millar stole the show in Round 10 when Steele’s tyres appeared to go off. Steele eventually finished third behind Darren Luke ..

BTCC - Anthony Reid will join Team RAC for the final three rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship starting at Silverstone this Sunday (30 August). Reid, who has not been in the BTCC since 2004, will race a third Team RAC-entered BMW 320si alongside Stephen Jelley and Colin Turkington. Northern Irishman Turkington currently leads the Drivers' championship but is coming under increasing pressure from Vauxhall's Fabrizio Giovanardi who already has two highly-competitive team-mates in Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan. Reid, with 15 race wins in the BTCC said: "Driving for Team RAC is a fantastic opportunity and one I just couldn't turn down. It's great being re-united with the crew at WSR again and I already feel right at home. It's especially good for me having Colin as a team-mate again and I'll be doing all I can to help him and Team RAC win the Championship." Team principal Dick Bennetts, who ran Reid in MGs from 2001-04, added: "Our hand's been forced by Vauxhall instituting team orders at Knockhill with Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan giving positions and points to Fabrizio. There's nothing wrong in them doing that; in fact it shows what good team-players they both are. However three against two isn't a fair fight, so that's why we've brought in Anthony to assist Colin and Stephen. It's going to be tough for him, never having driven the car before and having to carry maximum ballast of 45kgs (as a late entry penalty), but we expect him to be quickly up to speed and right up there in the races."

Former Formula 1 star Johnny Herbert has also announced he will be racing a Honda Civic for Team Dynamics in the closing three events of the season. Three races - being broadcast live by ITV4 - await the BTCC field this Sunday (30 Aug) around Silverstone's tight National circuit. Turkington, aiming for his first Drivers' title, leads the series by just nine points from Giovanardi, the Champion these past two years. Third and fourth and still with realistic chances of winning the title are former champions Jason Plato from Oxford (in his Racing Silverline Chevrolet) and Worcestershire's Matt Neal.

CAMSO–Team principle Tony Roots was unable to attend the Saturday night European Late Model Series race at Ipswich on the 15th, yet his team still managed to take victory in both heats and the final. Gary Ellis in the #95 Roots V8 Racing Chevrolet took the first heat from the #34 car of rookie driver Winston Graham, who has had some bad luck in recent meetings but looks to be putting it behind him now. Championship leader Jean Vassuer claimed the final podium position.Race two went to Kelvin Hassell who got behind-the-wheel of the #77 Roots V8 Racing car, standing in for Tony Roots. Hassell managed to pass Raptor Racing’s Jos Jansen to take the victory. Shane Bererton finished third, an excellent result given that this meeting was the debut for the #48 Tor Trucks car. The final race was stopped after Vasseur got his Profil+ Ford sideways out of turn four and was collected by the ever unfortunate Graham in the biggest accident of the evening. By the time the cars were cleared it was getting late and it was decided to have a five-lap shootout. Bererton led them away with Ellis on his outside. Ellis passed Bererton to take his second win of the day with Bererton holding off Kurt Dujardyn in the #2 Raptor racing car.

LMS - Strakka Racing’s Nurburgring 1000kms came to a sudden and disappointing end after 4 and-a-half hours of running on Sunday. Danny Watts was at the wheel in fifth place  as he came up tpo ,lap a slower GT2 car. It appears the driver of the car didn’t see the Ginetta Zytek and inadvertently ‘closed the door’ forcing Watts to take avoiding action. As he did so he clipped the edge of the track, loosing control and slidding off into the barriers..race over

JMW Motorsport did not have a good time at the fourth round of the Le Mans Series at Nurburgring. After running first in class early on a broken driveshaft dropped them down the order and although the team change the shaft in an incredible 13 minutes, and drivers Gianmaria Bruni and Robert Bell performed heroics in the remaining 4 hours climbing back to 9th in class , the race for podium splace as over..

Star Mazda - Mike Guasch won the ‘Masters Series’ Title in the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at the most recent round with a sixth in-class finish at Trois Rivieres. Porsche Carrera Cup GB - The contests for all three drivers' titles in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB are really hotting up as championships moves to Silverstone for rounds 15 and 16 over the weekend of 29/30 August. Tim Harvey (Red Line Racing) and Tim Bridgman (Team Parker Racing) are the key title contenders and they head to Silverstone split by only four points – in Harvey's favour. Bridgman clawed just one point back in the course of the previous race weekend at Knockhill, so it is going to be a tense run-in to the title. "As each meeting goes by, it becomes tighter and history suggests it will probably go down to the wire," said Harvey. However, Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance) and James Sutton (Red Line Racing) are still chasing the title and a bad weekend for Harvey and Bridgman would bring Caine and Sutton right into contention. Meanwhile, young Carrera Cup scholarship winners Tom Bradshaw (Team Parker Racing) and Lewis Hopkins (Red Line Racing) are getting quicker and quicker and could yet join the big four over the closing races of the season.  In the pro-am1 category, the competition is just as intense as Robert Lawson (JHR) battles to hold on to a series lead he has held since Oulton Park at the end of May. He has a gaggle of rivals and it is Glynn Geddie (Team Parker Racing) who is coming up strongly. A superb double win at Knockhill has brought Geddie to within 13 points of Lawson. Ollie Jackson (Motorbase Performance) and Tony Gilham (Red Line Racing) are well in contentionm on pro-am1, while Derek Pierce (JHR) will be quick and Michael Leonard (Team Parker Racing) rejoins the battle after missing Knockhill  New this weekend will be Liam Griffin in another car from the Motorbase Performance.  The points' situation in pro-am2 is also attracting a lot of interest and there has been some great racing in the category over recent race weekends. Robin Clark (Parr Motorsport) continues to head the standings, but his lead is under attack from Bob Lyons (Celtic Speed), Paul Hogarth (IN2Racing) and Glenn McMenamin (Parr Motorsport) and with scores to be dropped, it's going to be a close battle to the title.

Saloons - The next rounds of the Competition Car Insurance Ford Fiesta Championship are this coming weekend at Snetterton in Norfolk. David Ellesley is currently leading the championship by 8 points from Nick Sanderson with 6 rounds remaining so then latter needs a good set of results this weekend to try to close the gap before the Lydden Hill and Brands Hatch rounds.

Britcar - 'Education through Motorsport' team, Lunar Racing, head to Snetterton this weekend for round 6 of the 2009 BritCar Production Cup, looking to continue their championship challenge. Lying 2nd in the championship just two points behind the leading Honda Civic of 888 Solutions the student team know exactly what they have to do to earn top honours. It had been hoped that the MG ZS would have a bit more power from a new engine management system but unfortunately some parts are was unavailable in time so the car will be  running on the standard MG ECU. By Britcar regulations the Lunar MG is allowed 40% more power, so second in the Championship is quite remarkable. This weekend the team will have the same driver line of Alan Bonner and Cassey Watson. The experience Alan brings to the team in terms of endurance racing is priceless and during the Combe weekend he rapidly became an excellent mentor to teenager Cassey who has put in some very fast times already.

Clio Cup - Sam Tordoff was out for Total Control Racing at Zolder over the weekend racing in the Belgian Renault Clip Cup Championship. The 21 year old did a pretty good job too, picking up two second place finishes

International Formula Master resumes its 2009 season with two races supporting the Belgian Grand Prix at the Spa this weekend. Having successfully secured pole position and both wins at the Series' last rounds in Hungary last month, team JD Motorsport is looking to continue its recent form with drivers Josef Kral, Sergey Afanasiev and Vladimir Arabadzhiev gunning for more victories. "Hungary was the best result we had all year," said Afanasiev, winner of the last IFM round. "We have tested in Spa and I know everyone is really looking forward to it after the summer break. Racing in Brands Hatch earlier this year felt like a good preparation for this weekend too; both tracks are fast flowing with several ups and downs. We showed we had the pace last month and are looking for more points now. Josef [Kral] is catching up Fabio Leimer for the drivers' championship and I'm only two points away from Pål [Varhaug] so there's good chances to move up this weekend."  Current leader Leimer, racing for Jenzer Motorsport, will be aiming to consolidate his title chances with a return to winning form after a difficult Hungarian weekend. The young Swiss has led the drivers' championship all year, winning a race each weekend, but failed to do so at the Hungaroring. ISR's Alexander Rossi, will also be vying for a win at the F1 track this weekend. The young driver is set to receive his first taste of Formula 1 with the BMW-Sauber F1 Team this December, after the team confirmed his test would not be affected by the manufacturer's decision to leave the championship.  Alexander Sims and Samuele Buttarelli will reprise their seats this weekend, whilst British driver Edwin Jowsey and Andrea Roda, from Italy, will make their debut.

Josh Mulholland picked up a good fifth place in the first of two rounds of the 2009 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Brands Hatch on Sunday. He followed this up with a good top ten finish in the second race despite stalling on the grid and dropping back down the field at the start. He is now up to fifth in the championship.

Hillspeed’s Ahmad Al Harthy climbed back into third place in the Formula Renault BARC standings after two fourth places finishes at Brands Hatch on Sunday Team-mate James Theodore finished an excellent second in the second race after a disappointing ninth in race 1

GP2 - Lady luck was not with Alvaro Parente on Sunday when he was hit by Edoardo Mortara while running third, putting him out of the race and the chance of a podium finish.  After a good fourth on Saturday, the Ocean Racing Technology driver started Sunday’s race from fifth, but after a bit of a stramash at the start he dropped to sixth, still in with a chance of a good finish. After a couple of laps Parente found himself up to third and started to put Sergio Perez, who would evnetually finish second, under some pressure. However, at the beginning of the fifth lap, Edoardo Mortara, in a wild move, took the blue and black car out in the first corner, puting Parente into retirement. The Italian driver subsequently suffered a drive-through penalty for the move.  “The podium was there for us, our car was very well balanced, though an annoying vibration under braking, and I was attacking Sergio Perez. However, Edoardo Mortara forgot to brake to the first corner and put me out, preventing us of achieving the result that was in our reach”, said an angry Alvaro Parente. With a podium Alvaro would be in the Championship top-ten but he is already thinking in the next round at Spa next weekend. “It’s very frustrating to end a race in this way: retiring without doing anything for that, mainly, when a place in the podium was there for us. Sometimes, the races are like this. I could have recovered some places in the Championship, but yesterday we showed what we are capable of and now we have to look to the Spa-Francorchamps event”.

The OAK Racing Team Mazda entry of Matthieu Lahaye and Karim Ajlani came in third in LMP2, the pair’s second podium this year. On top of this the team’s second car, the #24 car came in fourth driven by Richard Hein and Jacques Nicolet.

Karim Ajlani scored his second podium of the 2009 Le Mans Series campaign after a determined display at the Nurburgring on Sunday..

Indylights - Andretti Green Racing/AFS Racing's J.R. Hildebrand took a decisive step to clinching the Firestone Indy Lights driver championship with a commanding victory in the Carneros 100 at his 'home track" of Infineon Raceway yesterday. Hildebrand can win the Firestone Firehawk Cup with a finish of 13th or better at Chicagoland Speedway on Aug. 29. This was Hildebrand's fourth win of the season and the fifth of his Firestone Indy Lights career. Felipe Guimaraes finished second, his career-best finish in Indy Lights. James Davison was third, his second-straight podium finish. It was Davison's 19th consecutive race finish, breaking the record he shared with Nick Bussell.

Indycar - Dario Franchitti has won the latest round of the Indycar Championship at Infineon Racway in Sonoma California. Franchitti took a lights-to-flag victory starting from pole, his fourth win of the season. The Target Chip Ganassi Racing driver is now second to Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe in the championship table, 4 points adrift. Briscoe came in second on Sunday ahead of rookie Mike Conway in third. "Track position was critical today," Franchitti said. "I did what I had to do to get out front. We stuck to our pit strategy. There were a couple hairy moments out there but this is critical and crucial for the championship."

F3000 – Will Bratt has won his first F3000 Euroseries race at Zolder yesterday. After suffering a puncture in the first race and failing to finish Will bounced back to win from pole position in the second, setting fastest lap in the process.

LMS - Strakka Racing’s Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S will start today’s Nürburgring 1000 Kilometres from the second row after Danny Watts was unfortunate to encounter yellow flags at the close of a tightly fought qualifying session. Four-tenths up on his previous best for the first sector, he eased off in respect of the flags and had to be content with a best of 1:42.966 – a second shy of pole but still good for fourth. In common with more than half the competitors in LMP1, Strakka Racing’s Team Manager Piers Phillips elected to brave out the first half of the twenty-minute qualifying session, hoping to make the best of the track conditions. “It was entertaining, out there on the pit wall, playing cat and mouse,” he said. “Maybe we were a bit brave, leaving our run until the last few minutes, but it could so easily have worked to our advantage. Unfortunately, an accident at Turn 5 and the associated yellows conspired against us, but it was a close thing.” The accident, involving one of the top-three in LMP2, occurred near the start of the middle sector, and was too serious to be cleared away before the end of the session. “Danny was nearly half-a-second up on his previous best until he encountered the incident and eased back,” explained Nick Leventis, Danny’s co-driver. “The middle sector has been Danny’s best throughout practice, so he could have hoped to make up even more time through there, so the front row was easily within our reach. However, there’s no point in feeling discouraged by what’s still been a great performance.” Watts will line up behind a trio of Aston Martin-powered coupés for the 12:30pm start. “We’re confident that our race pace is right on the ballpark,” claims Nick, “and being on the second row suits us fine. Although we’re down on torque against the larger-capacity engines, and lose in straight-line speed, we’re able to gain on them on the entry and through the corners. It’s a situation that hasn’t compromised us so far this season, and works well here at the Nürburgring. Reliability is our next issue, but we’re well-poised now for the race.”

GP2 - Alvaro Parente claimed a solid fourth place in the first GP2 race of the European Formula 1 Grand Prix event at Valencia. It was expected to bbe a tough race for the Ocean Racing Technology driver, especially since he injured his neck in yesterday’s practice. However he [put all that behind him to produce agood result .The Portuguese driver started well, and was fifth in the first corner, overtaking Roldan Rodriguez on his way into the first corner when the latter made a mistake. Lucas di Grassi was in sights as well  but he lost out to during the pit-stops allowing the Piquet GP driver to maintain 4th, for the tinme being that is. Brazilian Di Grassi was a hharder nut to crack and he was dealing with the pressure from Parente until, with three laps to go, the Racing Engineering driver felt hydraulic problems in his car and Parente was able to go by and grab the fourth place. “I couldn’t do much more than this! We didn’t have the pace for the two fastest drivers and, in this track, it’s very hard to overtake. I was able to gain a place with the Roldan Rodriguez mistake and to get another with Lucas di Grassi problems. My neck still hurts me a bit, but that didn’t prevent me from attacking during all race. The fourth place is a good result, if we look at the circumstances”, he said afterwards. With 5 points added yesterday Alvaro Parente looks forward to today’s race with confidence and wants another good result. “I’ll start tomorrow from the fifth place and it will be very important to have a good start. I’ll attack again until the chequered flag, but without mistakes, and with this approach I hope to achieve another good result”, he said

Other News - Memo Gidley  won the first two Jet Effect races in the 2009 DJSA Outlaw PWC Series last weekend and was heading form win number 3 when he had a huge high speed crash which sent a safety boat to his rescue.

LMS  - Aston Martin Racing will start the ADAC 1000km of Nürburgring first and second on the grid following excellent qualifying performances from Stefan Mücke (DE), who took pole in 007 and Darren Turner (GB) in the 009 Aston Martin. The Aston Martin duo secured the front row for the penultimate round of the Le Mans Series in their Gulf liveried LMP1 cars, qualifying over half a second faster than their nearest rivals. The sister 008 Aston Martin will start Sunday’s 195 lap race from the fifth row. With approximately eight minutes left, Mücke embarked on two timed laps, setting his pole time of 1m41.944sec on the second lap. Mücke said: “This is my first pole of the year and it is really special because we are at my home race. I think that I could have gone even quicker on the next lap because the Michelin tyres were improving but unfortunately there was a yellow flag. Nevertheless, I am happy with pole position and the extra point awarded for pole is very useful for our championship status. It is great to have my team-mate Darren on the first row next to me and I’m looking forward to the race.”  Turner went out on track just after Mücke with less than half of the session remaining posting a time of 1m42.060sec in the 009 car: “I’m happy with qualifying. We had been struggling with the balance of the car during practice but my engineer and mechanics did a really great job because in qualifying the car felt much better. It’s a solid result for the team with 007 on pole and us next to them in second. Hopefully we can translate this into a good race result.”Team Principal George Howard-Chappell is pleased with the team’s performance: “Excellent qualifying pace from Stefan and Darren. I’m really happy to be on the front row, especially at the home race for Stefan and also the CEO of Aston Martin, Dr Ulrich Bez, so thanks to the whole team for a great effort. It’s good to close up one point on the championship with the point we received for pole position. Of course this is only qualifying and it’s the race that matters so let’s see what we can do tomorrow.” In total, 38 cars will line-up to start the ADAC 1000km of Nürburgring. There will be a 20-minute warm-up session in the morning at 08:30 and the race will commence at 12:30 on Sunday 23 August. For live timing visit www.lemans-series.com or listen online at www.radiolemans.com

Historics - Clark's Lotus to return to Oulton Park for HSCC Gold Cup.  One of the most important Grand Prix cars of the 1960s, the Lotus 25 raced by Jim Clark, will make a return to Oulton Park for the Historic Sports Car Club's Gold Cup meeting over the Bank Holiday weekend of 30/31 August. The Lotus 25 was one of the most significant cars in Formula 1 development of the 1960s, and was the first such car to feature a monocoque chassis construction. Clark won the 1963 World Championship in chassis R4, taking wins in the Belgian, Dutch, French and British Grands Prix as well as in the non-championship Gold Cup race at Oulton Park. In September 1963, Clark dominated the Gold Cup and recorded the first 100mph lap of the Cheshire track. Now, after a gap of nearly 46 years, Lotus 25 chassis R4 will return to race in the pair of races for the Historic Grand Prix Car Association. Subject to a final shakedown at the Lotus test track, chassis R4 will race in the hands of Lancastrian former touring car racer Andy Middlehurst, who is a life-long fan of Jim Clark. The car sold for close to US $1 million at auction late last year and is not thought to have raced since 1970. The car has spent most of the intervening years in New Zealand and Australia; it is now owned by Australian John Bowers and is being tended by Classic Team Lotus. "The owner wants to see the car race in Europe," said CTL's Clive Chapman, the son of Lotus founder Colin.

Formula 5000 40th anniversary celebrations. To mark the 40th anniversary of the inaugural British Formula 5000 Championship race, the category is being celebrated at the Oulton Park Gold Cup and a number of former F5000 racers will be on hand to join in the celebrations and meet the fans. Peter Gethin, Gordon Spice, Teddy Pilette, Robin Darlington, Mike Walker and Alan Rollinson are all expected, with both Gethin and Pilette being double Formula 5000 champions from the heyday of the category in the late 1960s and early 1970s. They will be at the circuit on Sunday and will be based in garage number one, adjacent to race control. As well as the former drivers, there will be a strong presence of Formula 5000 race cars during the weekend in two races for the HSCC's Historic Formula 5000 and Formula 2 Championship. No less than 14 Formula 5000 monsters are due out this weekend in one of the strongest fields of the season.

Tommy Entwistle – 88 years of age and still racing. One of the most remarkable drivers in action over the Gold Cup weekend will be 88-year old Tommy Entwistle, the oldest driver in Britain to hold an international race licence. Tommy, who has been racing since the early 1950s, will race his TVR Grantura in the Guards Trophy race on Monday and will be partnered in the two-driver race by Trevor Farrington from Knutsford, who also prepares the TVR for racing. As well as being an accomplished racing driver, Tommy has an amazing background as he was a Spitfire pilot during the Second World War and was one of the first jet fighter pilots in the RAF. Tommy comes from Bamber Bridge near Preston and, apparently, still goes to the gym every day!

Bumper grids for HSCC Gold Cup. Underlining the status of the Gold Cup as one of the most important historic race meetings on the calendar, the Historic Sports Car Club has attracted a superb entry for the 18-race programme. Around 400 cars will be in action, with near capacity grids for two races for Formula Junior single-seaters, two races for the Guards Trophy Sports Racing and GT Championship and 30-car grids for both the Classic Formula 3 Championship and Historic Formula Ford 2000 Series. Even the smallest grid of the weekend will include 22 cars.

Formula Ford - Sonic Racing’s Mitch Evans has won the opening race of round six of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Queensland Raceway this afternoon. Evans, starting from pole position was never challenged for the lead, taking his second race win for the year.  “This weekend’s eventually making up for the shockers I had earlier in the season,” Evans joked. “I got a great start and was able to pull clear and stay out of trouble for the remainder of the race. The car’s got plenty of speed and I looked after my tyres pretty well so I should have plenty left to give it another crack tomorrow.” Joining Evans on the podium was his Sonic Racing teammate Geoff Uhrhane, who displayed he has what it takes to be a future race winner, finishing second after starting back in fifth position. “It’s great to be back on the podium again,” Uhrhane said. “I haven’t had a run like this since Winton (where he finished third) so it’s good to know we’ve got the package to take it to the likes of Nick (Percat) and Chaz (Mostert). It was great racing out there ... we all pushed pretty hard but all gave each other plenty of room – it was good clean racing,” he added. Evans made the most of his pole position, beating Chaz Mostert to turn one and then pulling away from the field who were left to battle it out for the minor placings ... and battle they did. No Fear racer Nick Percat and Mostert fought hard for second place over several laps mid-race, all the while Uhrhane kept the duelling duo within striking distance, eventually throwing his hat into the ring for a piece of the action. The threesome traded places several times each, before Uhrhane got the better of them to cross the line in second place. Percat and Mostert traded blows until the end, but it was Percat that managed to hang on to finish in third. After a horror start to the weekend, young Victorian Luke Ellery found the pace he was looking for and blitzed his way from 14th on the grid to finish in 7th place. CAMS Rising Star teammate Scott Pye wasn’t so lucky, experiencing gearbox gremlins that dropped him three places on the grid for the start of tomorrow’s second race. Round three of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship continues tomorrow with race two at 8.25am, followed by race three at 11.25pm.

Karts - Mini Max driver Jack Barlow showed his mettle when he drove from the back of the grid to an excellent 3rd place at Genk in Belgium last weekend (15/16 August).

GP2 - Alvaro Parente has  qualified in sixth for the first GP2 race of the European Formula 1 Grand Prix in Valencia. Qualifying was held in very hot conditions  with Parente up amongst the  frontrunners. It wasn’t all plain sailing for the Ocean Racing Technology driver as he suffered an injury to his neck during the morning practice. Despite his physical problems he battled hard during qualifying to come away with sixth place. “I think it was hard to do better than this! The car is well balanced and we are competitive, which makes me confident. This qualifying wasn’t easy, because it was very hot and my neck was in pain, after my morning injury”, he said.  Today’s 34 lap race will be very hard for the 24 year old although Parente  assured his team that he will give his best and that he has the podium in his sights. “It won’t be an easy race! But, as always, I’ll give my best and I want to end in the top-eight so we can score some more points and get a good grid position for the Sunday race. The podium isn’t beyond our reach and, if I have the opportunity, I’ll grab it with both hands”.

Grand-Am - AIM Autosport is pleased to announce the addition of the Tower Events No. 51 Ford Riley to the starting lineup for the Montreal 200 next week at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. This all-Canadian entry features John Farano (Toronto, Ontario) and Jean-Francois Dumoulin (Trois Rivieres, Quebec) at the wheel. Both drivers have previously competed in Daytona Prototypes. John Farano spent the last few seasons competing in the Ferrari Challenge and has run select Grand-Am Rolex races in a Mustang GT including the Rolex 24. It was originally planned for John to debut the No 51 at the 2009 Rolex 24 but a last minute change had him take one of the spots available in AIM’s No. 61 Ford Riley Daytona Prototype. Jean-Francois (JF) Dumoulin is no stranger to the Rolex Sports Car Series having started back in 2000 in the GTU class. Since then, JF has made a number of starts in SGS, GT and DP including nine appearances in the Rolex 24. He has claimed two Rolex 24 class victories - SGS in 2004 and GT in 2007. In addition to being a driver coach, JF competes in the Canadian Tire NASCAR Series alongside his brother Louis-Phillipe with their own team, Dumoulin Competition. “I am really looking forward to competing in Montreal next week” commented Farano. “While our goal was to do a few more races this year, circumstances dictated that we concentrate on our ‘home’ race and build toward a full time effort next season.” He continued, “I am very happy with the car and to have JF as my co-driver. JF and I did some testing recently and the guys at AIM have put together a great package for us. It should be a lot of fun, especially with last year’s race champions as stable mates.” “I had my first test in the car this week and am very pleased” said Dumoulin. “AIM Autosport has given us a good car and assembled an experienced crew to support us at Montreal. I am definitely looking forward to driving a Daytona Prototype around the very fast Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.” JF continued, “I’d like to thank John and AIM for the opportunity and I am really looking forward to getting on track next week in front of the home crowd.”

Carrera Cup GB - Liam Griffin is the latest driver to step up to the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB and will join the Motorbase Performance team for the next two races at Silverstone (29/30 August). Griffin only started racing at the beginning of 2008, but has already made a big impression in the VW Cup, taking three poles and two wins to date this season. He now wants to consider the Carrera Cup GB for 2010 and will use the Silverstone weekend as a toe-in-the-water exercise. "I've always been a car nut," said London-based Griffin. "Then in 2007 I got invited to a track day at Spa. It was a day driving Porsches and it was the best day I'd ever had," he said. "So I decided to go racing. I got my licence in February 2008 and did six rounds of the VW Cup; going from near the back to near the front." Griffin returned to the VW Cup this season and now has two race wins under his belt. "I've put a lot of effort in and I'm prepared to listen and learn. I drive a Porsche on the road and I'm a massive Porsche fan, so it's a boyhood dream to race one." After a recent test at Silverstone, with team mate Michael Caine offering guidance, Griffin decided to tackle a race weekend. "I've never raced a rear wheel drive car and the sequential gearbox was new to me, so I'd got a lot to learn. But by the end of the test day I was happy with the car. I'm not expecting miracles but I'll look to do next season in the Carrera Cup if all goes well." Griffin recognises that he faces a big challenge, but says that the championship structure of pro and pro-am1 categories is ideal for him. "The idea of being in exactly the same car as drivers like Tim Harvey and Michael Caine really appeals; you can measure yourself and it gives you something to aim at. I want to learn and get better."Team boss David Bartrum is delighted to have Griffin joining Caine and Ollie Jackson in the Motorbase Carrera Cup squad. "Liam is a very focused guy and he's very switched on. He's already working well with Michael Caine and our engineer Patrick de Groot," said Bartrum. "We'd love to work with him beyond Silverstone; he fits in very well with the team."

Formula Renault – Manor Competition heads for Silverstone next weekend for the 15th and 16th Rounds of the Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship (29th/30th August), These races could well decide the outcome of the 2009 championship as there Are now just 6 rounds to go. Dean Smith is currently second in the points, 6 behind the leader. However, with the championship’s double ‘drop-score’ ruling taken into consideration, he is in the lead.

F3000 - Will Bratt produced an impressive showing during his first ever appearance at Zolder in Belgium yesterday, Thursday, 20th August, with third fastest time in qualifying ahead of the fifth and sixth rounds of the 2009 PartyPokerRacing.it Euroseries 3000 Championship. Lapping the 2.5-mile track in a 1m19.647 seconds (181.29km/h), the 21-year-old is well placed ahead of the first of the weekend’s races, which will take place on Saturday, 23rd August. In scorching hot conditions, with temperatures well into the upper 30 degree bracket, Will enjoyed a solid build-up to qualifying during two half hour practice sessions. “I’m pretty happy with the third fastest time, it puts us in a good position for the first race”, said the EmiliodeVillota.com Motorsport driver, “We’ve still got work to do to try and find more time to get closer to (Marco) Bonanomi’s pace but there was nothing between us and Rodolfo (Gonzalez).  We’ll look through the data and see where we can improve and I’m sure we’ll be in good shape for the races on Saturday. Obviously I’d have preferred to have been on the front row but yesterday’s running was very positive, especially considering it was our first ever day at Zolder.”

WTCC - A rock concert will take place at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben on the same weekend as the FIA World Touring Car Championship, on September 5th and 6th. Volvo took part in the latest WTCC event at Brands Hatch with two C30 cars coming from the Swedish Touring Car Championship. Volvo Motorsport director Derek Crabb has answered some questions about that event. Speaking about marketing and PR, are you happy with Volvo participation in the WTCC event?  "Yes very happy. We had 60 happy and excited VIP guests at the track for a Volvo after market event. We also used the WTCC to release Polestar Performance software upgrades in the UK market. Polestar Performance chip-tuning is developed by our racing team. It is approved by Volvo and can be installed at our dealers. Polestar Performance is something we hope we can develop through our Motorsport participation to provide excitement to customers and value to Volvo."  What is the stock you take of the sporting results achieved by Dahlgren and Rustad? "Rustad was involved in crashes in both races so it's difficult to make a sensible analysis of his speed and performance. Dahlgren performed at a level we expected with the 40 kg of extra weight he had for the weekend." In terms of performance, how do you rate the Volvo C30 compared to the cars competing in WTCC? "One event won't tell us the whole story. Our C30 is currently optimized for the short circuits of the Swedish championship and on top of that we had 40 kg of compensation weight on both cars."  In the latest three years Volvo made one-off appearances in WTCC. Were these just an end in themselves? Or do you aim to expand motorsport activities beyond the STCC? "WTCC is always an ambition. Volvo is a premium brand and WTCC is a premium championship. For us, it is a matter of being ready and finding the right timing with future regulations and our car models." So far the Volvo C30 is racing under a national homologation. Do you plan to homologate the car with the FIA? "We will homologate under FIA when it coincides with our motorsport plans and we will clearly homologate any car we will be using at that time."

This weekend WTCC independent driver Kristian Poulsen will make a comeback to the Danish Touring car Championship and team with younger brother Roland Poulsen who will make his debut in a Super 2000 car. The Poulsen brothers will drive two BMW 320si cars in the championship's fifth race meeting at Jyllands-Ringen.  "It will be very exciting," Roland Poulsen said. "I am really looking forward to be in a rear-wheel drive car and fighting with the big boys. Kristian has assured me that I will be able to race a BMW, so I think it will go well."
Whereas Kristian has built a lot of racing experience, Roland is rather new to the sport. He made his debut in the Danish Volkswagen Polo Cup in 2007 and has since raced a Renault Clio III in the one-make series and the Danish endurance series.

Alain Menu and his Argentine team-mate Guillermo Ortelli were forced to retire during last Sunday's 200km of Buenos Aires. Their Vectra car, run by the Chevrolet Elaion team, stopped on the 22nd of the 35 laps when the engine was switched off by the protection system after a plastic bag brought by the wind fouled up the timing gears.Menu was recovering at a stunning pace after replacing Ortelli at the wheel on the 18th lap.
The race, that counted as the 7th round of the Argentine TC2000 Championship and 2nd round of the Endurance Series, was won by Norberto Fontana and Ricardo Mauricio in a Toyota Corolla.

ELF Renault Clio Cup racer Daniel Lloyd has high hopes for the 15th and 16th rounds of the 2009 championship at Silverstone next weekend, 29th/30th August. Earning the ‘driver of the day’ award for a stunning top six finish on the Northamptonshire venue’s full Grand Prix layout during round 11 –from 18th on the grid– Daniel backed the result up with an excellent seventh in round 12. Next weekend’s action will take place on the short National Circuit and while the 1.6-mile track is less demanding than the Grand Prix configuration, it regularly produces classic Clio Cup encounters and is a track the Total Control Racing driver is very much looking forward to. “We’re really looking forward to going back to Silverstone, last time we were there we had a couple of fantastic races but the aim next weekend is to qualify higher up the grid so we’re in or around the top six from the off. Qualifying hasn’t gone the way we had hoped during the last few events so if we can get that sorted I’m sure we’ll be quick in the races.” Currently 10th in the ELF Renault Clio Cup driver standings, the West Yorkshire racer has taken two top six finishes so far in his maiden season in the championship.

Formula 3 – Blake Varney got a late call-up for the Formula 3 Australian Drivers Championship in Queensland this weekend. When Kevin Miller decided to withdraw from the series leaving the Scarborough Holiday Parks #96 2001 Dallara without a driver,Varney quickly filled the seat..

Formula Ford - Sonic Racing's Nick Percat seems to have found the pace that eluded him at Sandown, posting the fastest lap times in opening practice of round six of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Queensland Raceway this morning. Percat, driving a Mygale posted a 1min 15.20secs, just two hundredths (.019) quicker than his nearest rival, Sonic teammate Geoff Uhrhane. "That was a pretty trouble free session," Percat said. "We've just used the sessions to work on our race set-up and hopefully the rod we're taking should be good enough tomorrow for a strong qualifying position." Urhrane's performance this morning is a promising sign for the Queensland rookie, who has struggled to maintain consistent pace. Third quickest in this morning's session was Mitch Evans – making it a Sonic and Mygale trifecta. Evans posted a 1min 15.35secs and hopes to improve with each lap as he gets to know the Queensland circuit. "The car was pretty quick out of the box this morning," Evans said. "We didn't really have to play around too much with our set-up and I was able to concentrate on learning the track seeing it's my first time here." Hometown favourite Chaz Mostert had a good run, finishing second fastest in the first session and fourth and the second. After a blistering performance at Sandown, he undoubtedly will be one to watch come race day. It wasn't a fun morning for the CAMS Rising Stars team, with Luke Ellery suffering a seized gearbox curtailing his first session and championship contender  Scott Pye ending up in the gravel after dropping a wheel off the circuit during the second. Jon Mills has also had a terrible day – pulling the pin on his weekend after being struck down by a severe bout of the flu. Mills was bitterly disappointed after describing his car as the best it has been all year. Round three of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship continues tomorrow with qualifying at 8.55am, followed by race one at 1.05pm.

BMW - The BMW-Sauber F1 Team confirmed earlier this month that Californian Alexander Rossi, winner of the 2008 Formula BMW World Finals in Mexico City will test for the team on Dec 1 – 3 at Jerez in Spain. The 17-year-old will be piloting the 850bhp car at the circuit in the southern region of the country. “Formula 1 has been my goal since beginning in karts at age 10”, says Rossi. “I work hard at my career each day, but there is still a lot to accomplish as I continue to prove my abilities. I appreciate the guidance that Dr. Theissen and the BMW Motorsport staff have added to my career and their continued confidence in me. To pilot an F1 car is a responsibility that I’ve worked toward my whole racing career. Mental and physical training are a big part of my life, my goal is to be prepared, learn as much as possible and do a fantastic job for the team, I will not take this opportunity lightly.Despite announcing BMW’s departure from Formula 1 at the end of 2009,” says Theissen, “we will honour our commitments to our young drivers in Formula BMW. We are looking forward to granting another two Formula BMW graduates the opportunity of gathering experience in an F1 car." Arriving back home, Alexander wasted no time, stepping up his physical preparations for his F1 duties.“I have been preparing for the physical demands of the F1 car,” Rossi continued. “I have spoken to BMW F1 driver, Robert Kubica about what to expect, he said to prepare my neck for lateral g-loads and my left leg for the brake pedal, which I am told can reach 175 bar of pressure.” “I’ve already ramped up the intensity of my training so that I am in peak physical condition for the test. I’ll be ready.” Up next for Alexander and International Formula Master is rounds 11 and 12 with Formula 1 at Spa-Francorchamps for the Belgium Grand Prix, August 28-30th

Bournemouth-based Winter will race the VIP car from Porsche Motorsport as part of the package of support given by Porsche Cars GB to the Porsche Club GB's motorsport programme. Due to budget constraints, Winter has not yet raced this season, so he is really looking forward to the chance to sample the latest 911GT3 Cup car. He hopes to return to racing later in the season in his own 996-model 911GT3 Cup car. "I've been sitting out the season so far, but it’s frustrating being a spectator," said Winter. "I'm extremely pleased and very excited about the prize," said the Dorset-based sportscar specialist. "I can't wait to get out in the latest model car and be out with the professional racers in the Carrera Cup. But I've got no expectations for the weekend; I just want to bring the car home safely and enjoy myself. There are a lot of very talented drivers out there." After two years racing a BMW M3, Winter stepped up to the Porsche Open for 2007 and 2008.

GP2 - After the summer break, the GP2 Series will return next weekend in the streets of Valencia, where Alvaro Parente hopes for a good result. The 2008 Spanish round of the championship wasn’t a lucky one for the Portuguese youngster, since that he didn’t see the chequered flag. However, the circuit in the Valencia streets pleases the Ocean Racing Technology driver, who is confident this weekend. “I like this circuit, though I had to retire in the last year’s first race without fuel in my car, two laps from the end. I hope that we may have a well balanced car for this circuit and that we may fight for the top positions”. Though he scored a point in the second race at the Hungaroring Parente didn’t show the pace he had in the previous races. At Valencia he is confident that he can fight for a good result. “At Hungaroring we weren’t at the level that we expected, but, nevertheless, we reached the points in the second race. I’m very confident that, at Valencia, we can show the pace that we exhibited in the previous races and that we may fight for the top positions and, in that way, obtain a good results and some good points, which are our goals for the rest a of the season”,.

I won’t be expecting much from myself as my opponents have so much more experience but I won’t sit back! I will do my best to join them in the fight to the finish. I have been training really hard every day at my local gym to keep myself fit for any race I am about to do. Anything may happen and I’m ready for it as I always am for any race.” ART Team Manager Philippe Descombes mentioned: “We are very pleased to have Suriya with us for this event. GTs - Tom Dunstan and Team GCR are delighted to announce their return to racing in the FIA European GT4 Cup at Zolder in Belgium this Saturday, 22nd August.  Over the weekend Team GCR Principals met with Richard Dean, Managing Director of Ginetta Cars to discuss Joe Osborne's sudden departure with the result that Team GCR will receive support from Ginetta Cars to allow them to continue racing in the European GT4 Cup. Team Principal, Robin Sherwood, commented, 'We don't take things lying down, and as much work goes on behind the scenes as it does at the race track. We're delighted to receive recognition of this in gaining works support from Ginetta for the continued challenge in the European GT4 Cup and we will be making the most of it. The entire team has worked tirelessly throughout the season, and I'd like to thank them all for their hard work. There's no better way of rewarding this than by continuing to race in the European GT4 Cup.'   Team Engineer Mark Stokes added, 'There's no reason why we can't be at the front with the data we have accumulated. We are now free of any shackles and can just go out there and enjoy our racing. We are hampered by a lack of testing, and it's true this will be the first time we lay eyes on the Zolder circuit, but we'll remain absolutely professional. It's a virtue we're known for, and this extends to our racing throughout.' Tom Dunstan was typically level-headed about the prospects of racing at Zolder, 'I'll be driving my own race. I'm not there to come second, and my focus will be on that chequered flag. I can expect some strong resistance in getting there, but the goal is to finish the races, not end up in a heap with other cars fighting each other. We're all experienced, professional racing drivers, so I think we'll see some very close action indeed. Hopefully I'll be ahead of the pack!'  A decision on whether the team will race at the Algarve circuit in Portugal on Sept 13th remains open at present.

Lewis thrilled the crowds with his appearance last year, and it is fantastic that British fans will have the opportunity to see him again this year as F1 World Champion.” Tickets for DTM Brands Hatch on 5/6 September cost from £25 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. "It was a novice mistake," said O'Sullivan. "I just sort of splattered off the track." Right on cue and with a valuable lesson put away, Ronnie gave a more than respectable showing on Sunday to finish 14th. After a cautious start from the tail-end of the grid he gained pace and overtook one of his rivals before the end. "At least I got a whole race in," he said. "It was a good experience, I enjoyed it very much and now I am looking forward to having another crack at Brands Hatch next month."

Cash-strapped Ingram desperate for funding to get back on-track. Following a dream start to his fledgling car racing career, a podium in only his second meeting and a double pole position in his fourth, Tom Ingram’s dream has become a nightmare in the form of a funding shortfall focing him to sit out the last two rounds of the Ginetta Junior Championship.“It’s been awful,” lamented the young High Wycombe driver. “We went into the mid-season break and had a stand at the High Wycombe Motorshow to try to raise some sponsorship, but despite receiving a lot of interest, we haven’t been able to raise a penny. That’s been a bit disheartening, because we had been expecting to find something at least. As the weeks passed we got more and more dispirited; we had work we needed to do on the car, and with every passing week the time was ticking down.  “The hardest thing for me was watching the racing on TV and following the results online – that’s made it even worse. But you can’t let yourself get upset about it. At the end of the day, that’s just life, isn’t it?” Requiring a total of £5,000 to complete the season – in which he stillsits only just outside the top ten in the title standings despite missing out on as many as 156 points – Tom admits that backing from the likes of Conway House Dental Practice and former Monodraught managing director Terry Payne has helped, but more, far more, is still needed.

The Porsche Club Championship was in action at Thruxton circuit for the first time since 2005 at the weekend and the main title contenders each picked upm two wins. Andrew Herron made his debut in the Carrera Cup GB at Knockhill coming away with am eighth place finish in Round 13. It could have beenn even higher if he hadn’t suffered a spin late in the race when he was running sixth.  Round 14 wasn’t as good however, late in the race, a coming together with Derek Pierce saw Andrew end his race in the barrier, fortunately he emerged unhurt apart from a sore neck and leg.

Star Mazda -  Alex Ardoin took the lead from pole-sitter Rusty Mitchell on the final lap of  Round 10 of the 2009 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Trois Rivieres in Canada to notch up the second win of his Star Mazda career. Joel Miller was third ahead of local driver 16 year old Mikael Grenier who put in a superb display climbing from 19th place to 4th at the flag.

Conor Daly Fastest At Trois-Rivieres But Finishes 13th. Even though Mazdaspeed-driver Conor Daly was fastest during the first practice day on Friday, and again the fastest driver through the streets of the historic Trois Rivieres circuit on race day, a thirteenth place finish was all he had to show for his efforts at the end of the weekend. After starting sixth when front row starter Peter Dempsey was late to the grid and was therefore penalized and had to start from the pit lane, Conor immediately began to move up and had just passed Adam Christodulo for fourth place when he suffered the first of two bizarre issues, as he could not down-change for turn eight. By the time he got the car back into gear he was back in ninth place. After regaining his composure Conor set off after the leaders and managed to climb back up to sixth place when his engine mysteriously cut out; again dropping him from the lead pack. Fortunately, the engine malady healed itself as mysteriously as it occurred, and Conor again reeled the lead pack in. With three laps to go Conor’s team mate, Joel Miller went wide at the entrance to the front straight, and Daly and Brazilian Dennis Navarro passed him on the run to the turn. Conor then attempted to pass Navarro but the two touched and the resulting impact broke the steering arm on his car.“I am just so disappointed  because Mike (engineer) and Dave (mechanic) put a big effort in and I had a great car”, Conor said afterward. "It was very frustrating having to sit behind slower cars when I truly felt that I could have won today. On street races where passing cars is very difficult, any single issue during the weekend can create a cascade of challenges. The qualifying incident with Dempsey that shortened my qualifying effort is why I was so far back to start with. However, it was up to me to make the best of the situation and I was a little too optimistic with three laps to go. Setting the fastest race lap does not seem to be much consolation right now."  Conor has now dropped out of the top-three in the Championshipn as it moves to Mosport for its next round on August 29th

BTCC - Jason Plato, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Mat Jackson all had a turn on the top step pof the podium in the HiQ MSA  BTCC at Knockhill in Scotland on Sunday. De Silvestro has extended he lead in the points to 21 (156 to 135) with with three races remaining.

Formula 3 – Manor Motorsport had what can only be termed as a ‘Stinker’ in the F3 Euro Series at the Nurburgring. Their lead driver Roberto Mehri was hit with a ‘drive-through penalty’ in race 1 for a jumped start and in race two he had to pit for a new front wing after a collision in turn 1  at the start. Cesar Ramos (left) brought a glimmer of light to the team with a fine 13th place in race 2

They will get a brand-new 122-piece Aluminium Case Tool Set valued at $880.00. “The crew members that make up the teams are the unsung heroes of the championship and support it more than many realise,” Formula 3 Australia board member Richard Craill said. “Most, if not all, of them have a passion for Formula 3 and put in double the effort and time to ensure that their cars perform well, look sensational and therefore they are big contributors to the growth of F3 in Australia. This is our way of thanking them for their commitment to Formula 3, their teams and their drivers throughout the 2009 season. We are very pleased to see AmPro further their investment in the F3ADC brand and we look forward to working with them for the remainder of 2009. “ To support their sponsorship of both Mat Sofi and the Formula 3 Australian Drivers’ Championship, AmPro Tools will launch a new racing-specific website at www.amrproracing.com.au shortly.

Formula 2 - Julien Jousse and Andy Soucek both won a race at Donington Park in the FIA Formula Two Championship on Sunday. For Jousse it was his first win in the series  while it was Soucek’s third.

Karts - The UK Easykart series moves to the  Rowrah circuit next weekend as the season edges towards it's conclusion. The battle for supremacy in the Heavy class is nicely balanced at the moment. Barnaby Pittingale currently has a 25 point lead, but it is Kieran McCullough who has matched his tally in the past two rounds, with 1st and 2nd-place finishes. Kieran remains third, but has closed in on early series leader William Smith, whose challenge in recent races has begun to wobble. Brian Parias and Mark Lawrence as another two drivers who may add to the drama in this class. In the Light class Owen Jenman, Jack Sales and Elliott Rice could take Rowrah’s two available wins. Terry Langley will be doing his utmost to stop them. The Championship leader has taken three victories this season, whilst Jenman has yet to finish higher than second. However, the latter goes well at Rowrah and must himself feel he is now due a turn on the top step of the podium. Adrian Crockett will be eager to give his title chances a major boost. He lies third at present. Sam Massey is another who can  be considered a ‘dark horse’ for a top three championship finish. In the Juniors Patrick Lay continues to lead ahead of Brad Fairhurst. Patrick has finished runner-up at the three rounds, whilst Brad won at Rye House in the last. Christopher Waldock was victor at Clay Pigeon and Teesside and is breathing down the necks of his fellow front-runners. Behind him, there is a gaggle of young drivers who are long overdue a maiden win. William Lampitt, Thomas Grainger, Tiernay Oliver and Dean Clayton look stronger with each race and at Rowrah their long wait could finally be over. Looking at the Cadet class it is difficult to see James DeHavilande loosing out. He could put the championship beyond doubt if he wins on Saturday and Sunday.

Jay Goodwin bounced back from a horrendous practice accident at Kimbolton, in which he ended up buried beneath another competitor and covered from head-to-toe in bruises, to storm to a podium finish just hours later - a performance that left many observers stunned.

Fulvio Mussi  driving the Yourracingcar.com-backed car finally got onto the podium on Saturday in Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup at Knockhill in Scotland. However his team Total Control Racing’s delight with his econd place was tempered by an incident that took out Mussi’s Championship contending team mate Carl Breeze.  The latter was forced out after contact with Frank Wrathall on the last lap while running second. Then incident also delayed Wrathall leaving the door open for Fulvio to get past  and take that second place.

F2000 - Chris Miller took pole for the F2000 season finale at Mid-Ohio this morning in qualifying and added another three points to his championship lead over Matthew Inge, who lost a front wing during the session and will have to start seventh. Remy Audette will line up next to Miller’s JDC Van Diemen. Tim Minor will start third alongside yesterday’s winner Benjamin Searcy. Victor Carbone rounded out the top five. “We used our remaining two allotted Hoosier slicks on the left side,” Miler said. “That was a good call and we turned a couple good laps right in the middle of the session. Then I just pulled into save tires. I’d love to win the race but it’s more important to stay out of trouble and think championship.” Chris Miller now touts a huge 30 point margin in the championship over Matthew Inge.  Inge said: “The car was so much better than yesterday with the wing package St. Clair put on. I think I could have put it on pole but was pushing way too hard and just lost it in one, ending my session.” Audette. The surprise of the 25-minute session was Mark Defer, who qualified his St. Clair Van Diemen in sixth. Matthew Inge followed in seventh with Slade Miller, Fabio Orsolon and Jerry Szykulsk rounding out the top ten. And the route was packed either side with the public all eager for a glimpse of their BTCC heroes before they head across the Firth of Forth for their latest race at the Knockhill circuit in Fife this Sunday (16 August). After an autograph session that resulted in the BTCC drivers being besieged with people, the cars were then waved off by Edinburgh's Lord Provost George Grubb. Perhaps the biggest cheers were directed the way of Scottish BTCC driver Jonathan Adam who will surely be hoping for a race win in front of his home crowd at Knockhill this weekend in his Airwaves BMW. BTCC Series Director Alan Gow said: "This has been a truly great spectacle - for the city of Edinburgh, for the public and for the BTCC and its forthcoming round at Knockhill. Every driver has come back and expressed astonishment at just how many people were lining the route today. Many of these people of course will be new to the BTCC - here in Edinburgh for the world-famous festivals period - which can only be of tremendous benefit to the championship”. Cars from the supporting Ginetta Junior, Ginetta G50 and Porsche Carrera Cup - driven by Sarah Moore, Julien Draper and Barry Horne - also took part. .

WTCC - The Russian Bears team that run the LADA factory squad are ready for a complete switch to the Priora car. The new model was introduced in Porto last month, where James Thompson joined the team to drive the new car alongside two 110 2.0 machines for Jaap van Lagen and Kirill Ladygin. The team did the same at Brands Hatch two weeks later. From Oschersleben however the team will race three Priora cars. Thompson will be forced to miss Oschersleben due to his commitments in the Australian V8 Supercar championship, which were already in place before he signed for Lada. He will be replaced by team principal Viktor Shapovalov. After having tested in Zolder last week, the team have another test scheduled at Magny-Cours on August 22, which will focus on the engine.

BMW drivers are getting ready for when the WTCC resumes at Oschersleben in three weeks. The German event will mark the beginning of the championship's final phase and also BMW's home race meeting. Augusto Farfus, third in the table is visiting Asia: "I came here on behalf of Formula BMW Pacific and PETRONAS to be involved in a young drivers' development programme. After my return to Europe I will work hard with the team to ensure that we are best prepared for the final races," he said.Test drives, PR appointments and other events equally fill the agenda of Farfus' team-mate at BMW Team Germany, Jörg Müller: "It's hardly a summer break for me, there is always something happening. The break is more important for the engineers and technicians, as they work on the cars every day in search of more speed."
Andy Priaulx of BMW Team UK puts his family as top priority during a break. "Quality time with the family is always my priority. To get several days together without me flying off for a test or race is bliss,"  said Priaulx. BMW Team Italy-Spain's Alessandro Zanardi and Sergio Hernández are enjoying deserved holidays, but they will return to the wheel of their BMW 320si cars for a test at Adria at the end of August.

Tom Coronel and Franz Engstler took part last Sunday in the 10th 12 Hour Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race at Sepang, Malaysia.They both drove Porsche 996 GT3 cars - Lammertink Racing for Coronel, Autoracing Club Bratislava for Engstler - and both retired because of technical failures.The race was won by Manabu Orido in a BMW Z4 of the Petronas Syntium Team;

GTs  - Team GCR has announced it is withdrawing from the FIA European GT4 Cup. The cause is Championshp leader Joe Osborne’s decision to leave the team for the Ginetta Cars team which runs with full factory support. This has left the team with a financial shortfall for this year which they don’t expect to find this late in the season. Therefore Team they have no choice but to quit the series.  They will however continue to work closely with Ginetta over the coming weeks and months as they plan their assault on the 2010 British GT Championship. "My Dad raced at Trois-Rivieres in 1979 for Fred Opert Racing in the Atlantic Series back when F1 drivers raced at Trois Rivieres on a regular basis, so it will be kind of nostalgic for him to watch me race there.  We are committed to our Championship run even though our car appears to be outclassed by the new car Star Mazda that now has experienced and fast drivers (Dempsey & Christodoulou) behind the wheel. However, my personal goal is to get the best from myself and from my car. My team guys are great and we're always in the hunt, so even though this year has been a big learning curve for me as long as I can stay out of other people's trouble, we should produce a good result at the end of the weekend.“

"We were not happy after qualifying," said Jonsson, who started eighth, the furthest a race-winning car has come from in 2009. "Then we changed the car completely around, using the same setup we used here in the Sahlen's Six Hours. Even though the long course we raced in June is very different from the short course we raced tonight, it worked out." It was the third Daytona Prototype victory for Jonsson and second for Zonta. In second was Pruett and Memo Rojas who now lead the Championship with three races remaining in the Daytona Prototype championship. Driving the No. 01 TELMEX Lexus Riley, fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, they now have a 4 point lead over fourth-place finishers Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty in the No. 99 GAINSCO Pontiac Riley fielded by Bob Stallings Racing. Formula Renault – Kieren Clark didn’t have it all his own way in the most recent rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Doinington over the weekend. The Apotex Scorpio Motorsport driver was beaten for the first and second time this season and he had to settle fopr a second and a fourth place finish. He however extend his Championship lead.

Karts - Rotax 177 racer Lloyd de Boltz-Miller’s bid to set a new world 24 hour record began today (11 August) at 10am – but there’s still time for everyone to be part of it. Lloyd says, “I’m doing this to raise vital funds for the Spinal Injuries Association. I’m aiming to do something nobody else in Britain has ever done before – spend 24 hours driving a kart non-stop. But the whole thing is really about supporting the amazing work of the SIA and for that, I want people to donate some money to the charity. It’s easy to do and you’ll be sharing my success if I beat the record.”  The record attempt is taking place on 11 / 12 August at Ellough Park Race Circuit, near Beccles in Suffolk.  Lloyd has already been generously supported by some of the names in karting - Gillard Racing Karts, who have loaned him a chassis, Steve Ogden (Steve Ogden Motorsport) has also given Lloyd three Rotax motors to use, whilst Luke Hines at Grand Prix Racewear has kindly donated an Alpinestars racesuit, boots and gloves. Phoenix Distribution and JLF have joined forces to give Lloyd an Arai SK5 helmet, with Jason Fowler (JLF) creating a stunning new design commemorating Lloyd’s attempt.   It's easy to donate online with a credit or debit card - just go to http://www.justgiving.com/Lloyd-de-Boltz-Miller.  “Just Giving will send your donation directly to the Spinal Injuries Association and automatically reclaims Gift Aid on all eligible donations, so what you give is worth even more. I hope you'll join me in supporting this fantastic organisation”.

Callum Bowyer produced a superb performance at Kartmasters, the toughest and most prestigious event on the British karting calendar, to storm through the field from plum last to within a whisker of a podium finish at the chequered flag.

VW Cup - Three-time World Snooker Champion Ronnie O'Sullivan is to swap the green baize for black tarmac at Silverstone this weekend (15/16 Aug) and make his motorsport debut at the wheel of a 130mph racing saloon in the Volkswagen Racing Cup in association with Hankook. 'Rocket Ronnie' will drive car number 147, a turbocharged 2-litre Volkswagen Jetta, in the two rounds. Though he has appeared on TV's Fifth Gear, and was Top Gear's 'Star in a reasonably priced car', O'Sullivan has never raced before. "They were good things to do but this is my first real intense kind of motorsport experience," says the Essex 33-year-old, who adds that the Silverstone races are just the beginning of his track career. "I want to continue racing; it's something that I'm well into. I'm doing Silverstone and hopefully also the Brands Hatch races in September, and I definitely want to do more racing next year." Ronnie started his race training at Silverstone last week ahead of his track proficiency test and Saturday's qualifying sessions.  Ronnie's track exploits have been made possible thanks to his sponsor Addison Lee, London's leading minicab company, whose directors Liam and Kieran Griffin made their track debuts in the Volkswagen Racing Cup in 2008. O'Sullivan's Jetta has been liveried in Addison Lee's colours to match Liam's Scirocco and Kieran's Golf GTI.O'Sullivan isn't expecting to 'pot black' on his debut: "I'll be happy just not to come last," he says. "I just want to get around, get some experience and have some fun."

Porsche Club Championship - The Porsche Club Championship visits Thruxton for the first time in several seasons this coming weekend, August 15th and 16th, and the high-speed Hampshire circuit sees the overall championship battle going strong. Jez Clark heads Class Two and the series overall, the 2008 champion having stepped up a class and still showing his pace, while closest challengers Ben Demetriou and Mark McAleer have shared the Class One wins between them – providing great racing but allowing Clark to open a gap in the points. Class One is numerically the biggest, with the lead drivers usually racing for the outright win. The 968s of Demetriou and McAleer have been the cars to beat so far this season, the battling pair taking a win apiece in the season opening meeting at Donington and that setting the scene for their seasons to date. Demetriou holds sway with six wins – but consistent finishing by McAleer, the 2007 Champion, sees him just 15-points behind. The 968 has been doing the winning in the races, but behind, the rear-engined models are gaining pace. New to the series for 2009 is the 993 C2, and the cars of Gary Duckman and Scott Kavanagh have been catching up as the drivers learn their new mounts, and a reduction n the minimum weight should see the 993s in contention at Thruxton.  A feature of the rear-engined cars is their speed off the line, and Kevin Harrison has been the master of that at some circuits, his 964 C2 blasting into the lead from the second row of the grid at Brands Hatch. Third in the Class One points, Harrison should be a contender this weekend along with the similar car of Marcus Carniel, a Porsche Club regular who is always in the thick of the action. Others who could impress include Richard Higgins and former champion Richard Lambert.  Although the series has not been to Thruxton for some time, the Class Two cars have always run well there and that could see Clark on for an upset in the two races. A front row qualifier when the Porsche Club Championship visited Anglesey earlier in the year, Clark’s 944 S2 usually declines to battle too hard with the Class One runners in his chase for class, and overall points, but the lure of a strong finish may just prove too strong at Thruxton. Unbeaten in class this season, Clark has stayed clear of the pursuing Chris Dyer, John Gilmore and Ian Balaam. The first of the weekend’s two 10-lap races is on Saturday with the second race at 12.15 on Sunday.

Formula Renault - Reon Motorsport’s Dino Zamparelli put in two great performances to win both races at Donington park in the 2009 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship. His wins ended a run of  victories for Apotex Scorpio Motorsport’s Kieren Clark who until the weekend was unbeaten this season. The wins lift the former Ginetta Junior champion to fifth place in the Championship. Championship leader Clark had a bad weekend by his standards this year pic king up a second and fourth, although his lead in the title chase is still 62 points. In the Privateer Cup, Steven Durrant won round six and Andrew Jarman won round 7.

Hillspeed’s Ahmad Al Harthy didn’t have  a particularly great weekend at Donington in the 2009 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championshi . In the opening race he finished fifth after getting pi[pped for fourth in the closing stages while his second race was ruined at the start when he was pushed off. He put in a great recovery drive to eighth but it could have been so much better.

Front-running Ginetta Junior Championship competitors Jake Hill and Jake Rattenbury will both be given an opportunity to drive a Protyre Formula Renault BARC single-seater for the first time next week during a two-day test outing with Derbyshire squad Hillspeed. Kent-based 15-year-old Hill, who has achieved one race victory and two other podium finishes during his first season of car racing in Ginetta Junior this year, will join Hillspeed at Pembrey Circuit in South Wales on Monday, 17 August, for his maiden run in a BARC-specification Formula Renault.  On 18-19 August, Cardiff-based Rattenbury will take over the car for his first test at the wheel of a single-seater. The 15-year-old has a best result of sixth place so far in Ginetta Junior this year. “We’re delighted to have both Jakes out testing with us next week, it’s important to be able to offer opportunities to young aspiring drivers and we’re looking forward to seeing how they both adapt to a single-seater for the first time”, commented Hillspeed’s Richard Ollerenshaw. “Obviously Jake Hill has already taken his first win in Ginetta Junior this year and Jake Rattenbury is a consistent top 10 finisher so they both have speed and ability. Formula Renault BARC will be a totally different challenge from what they’re used to but we’re sure they’ll both do a very good job.”  Hillspeed’s regular Formula Renault BARC racers Ahmad Al Harthy and James Theodore are also expected to take the opportunity to test at Pembrey ahead of the eighth and ninth rounds of the season which will be held at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, Kent, on 22nd/23rd August.

Formula Nippon - Benoit Treluyer picked up yet another podium finish in the Formula Nippon Championship at Motegi on Sunday. It was the Frenchman’s fifth time on the podium and it keeps him in the title race.

Atlantic - Jonathan Summerton  came away from  the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Saturday night with another win in the  Cooper Tires Presents The Atlantic Championship Powered by Mazda. Second was Championship leader Simona De Silvestro who has increased he lead in the table to 16 after second placed John Edwards failed to finish.

Formula Renault 3.5 - SG Formula may be new to Formula Renault 3.5 but in it’s fifth outing at Portimao last weekend the French team claimed their first podium.  After taking fifth palce in race 1 their driver Guillaume Moreau took a deserved third in race 2.

Karts - Ginetta Junior driver Tom Ingram made a one-off return to Karting last weekend in the Red Bull Summer BBQ and Race Day at Milton Keynes Daytona Raceway. Despite starting the race with slicks on a wet track he enjoyed a great battle with Alice Powell and Chris Dymond to bring his Kart home in second.

Indycar - Scott Dixon dominated the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio presented by Westfield Insurance to earn his 20th IndyCar Series victory ahead of Ryan Briscoe. This was Dixon’s fourth win of the season moving him back into the championship points lead with four races remaining.  Three points behind is Ryan Briscoe with Dario Franchitti third 20 points back. Franchitti finished third for his ninth top 5 in the No. 10 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car and Ryan Hunter-Reay gave A.J. Foyt Racing its best finish in more than a year with fourth after starting seventh in the No. 14 ABC Supply Co. car. The next race is on Aug. 23 at Infineon Raceway-

IndyLights - James Davison led all 40 laps and won the Mid-Ohio 100 Indy Lights race for the second consecutive year. It was the first victory for Vision Racing five weeks after Davison gave the team its first pole at Watkins Glen. James Hinchcliffe, driving the No. 7 Hinchtown/Sam Schmidt Motorsports car, finished 4.0420 seconds back and Firestone Indy Lights points leader J.R. Hildebrand finished where he started (third) in the No. 26 ARPRO car for AFS Racing/Andretti Green Racing. Davidson was clearly elated wit the win, "It was awesome. We didn't really have any pressure from behind. The whole team effort was awesome. I'm really happy. The tires started to wear off, losing front grip and rear grip, but it's the same for everybody. We were able to pull away from the next car behind us, so I gather we were the quickest car on the track."

Danish Touring Cars – James Thompson continued his winni9njg ways in the Danish Touring Car Championship with two wins from three races at Padborg Park over the weekend. The third winner of the day was Henrik Lundgaard who won race 2 after Tom Pedersen’s gearbox broke 2 laps from home while he was leading.

After the summer break we couldn't wait to get started again. The Rizla Racing Day was another great display of the never fading enthusiasm of our Dutch fans. Jeroen Bleekemolen got them to put their hands together again as they applauded the spectacular demonstration that he did for them. Talking about his home event next season he continued: “The A1GP event in Assen on May 16, 2010 is only nine months away and ticket sales have already picked up. The British GT Championship is the perfect springboard, with significant media appeal, superb hospitality and networking opportunities, and even the chance to do grid walks like you'll find in Formula 1. Giving our partners the chance to soak up the atmosphere as they chat with our drivers moments before they start the race is quite an experience! No other championship offers this, and this requires our team to step up to the mark, as we will be the main event now.' Team Engineer, Mark Stokes, added, 'Many long nights of planning go into the selection of a race championship. There are a myriad of factors to be considered, and in selecting the GT4 class in British GT we know we have the right car, racing at the right circuits for the most part. We believe that through our data analysis and planning work we'll have a good edge once we arrive on the grid, and this is a great chance to really give something back to our public. It promises to be extremely exciting and I personally can't wait!'

Grand-Am - After setting third fastest time of the day in early practice for this weekend’s Grand Am: Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen, AIM Autosport went to work with notes from Burt and Mark to prep the No 61 Ford Riley for the afternoon's qualifying session. The changes were all in the right direction as Burt continued to run with the lead group in qualifying. There was a lot of back and forth for positions two through four over the fifteen-minute session and Burt was bumped from the front row in the closing laps. The times were close with only 0.02 secs separating second from fourth place and the top four are all within .267 seconds (P2: .246; P3: .257; P4: .267). AIM Autosport is the returning to this race after winning  from pole in 2008. The only difference this year is that Burt Frisselle has replaced his brother Brian who is now in the No. 10 car. They will start side-by-side on row two for this evenings(Friday) race. It was at this time last year that AIM's fortunes turned around taking three podiums in a row in August and catapulting the team forward in the championship. AIM is currently sixth overall in the series - ahead of their position at the same time last year.Burt Frisselle commented: "The car is great and we are fast. I was having a lot of fun out there and really had the car at the limit. The only thing that caught me out was getting space on the track for more hot laps." WTCC - The Chevrolet WTCC team tested yesterday in Zolder with Nicola Larini. The test was part of the intense programme of development and testing of the new Cruze car. It made its race debut at the beginning of 2009 and has already won five WTCC rounds tom date. The test took an interesting dimension since the Belgian track has been included in the WTCC's preliminary 2010 calendar. Given its demanding characteristics, Zolder is an ideal choice for a test session during the summer break. The team's aim was to continue the constant development work on the balance of the car, set-up and aerodynamics. Nicola Larini said: "I know Zolder well since the '90s and I think it is perfectly suited for touring cars. It is technical and demanding, especially for the brakes, with constant changes of rhythm, and it's also quite spectacular. I am really happy that the WTCC is coming back here and although this will only happen next year, having the possibility to test now will certainly be useful." Eric Nève, Chevrolet Europe Motorsport Manager, commented: "I am very pleased with the news of the WTCC going back to Zolder, because it is a perfect track for touring cars and enjoys a very strategic geographical location, at the crossroad between the Benelux countries, Western Germany and Northern France. This region happens to be a key car market and an area where interest for touring cars is very high."

British GT - Race victories for five different marques in GT4 across Europe this season are underlining the effectiveness of championship regulations aimed at promoting close, exciting racing. They are an indication that the category is set for a resurgence in the UK in 2010, says the Avon Tyres British GT Championship promoter, SRO Motorsports Group. The Corvette C6, Porsche 997, Aston Martin Vantage, BMW M3 and Ginetta G50 have all taken race wins in the Dutch GT4 Championship in 2009, and meanwhile in the GT4 European Cup there have been victories for the Ginetta, BMW, Porsche and Aston. "It is a clear indication that the GT4 regulations have been well formulated and that no one marque has an unfair advantage," says SRO Marketing Manager Alistair Spence. "Hopefully teams looking to contest British GT next season will take note of these results and they will broaden their perceptions. "SRO is fully committed to GT4 and everyone here believes that a strong GT4 category is vital to the continuing success of the Avon Tyres British GT Championship."  Underlining that commitment, SRO is working hard with the Dutch and European series organisers to bring competitors from those championships to the UK for the season-closing British GT rounds at Brands Hatch next month. "It would be great to see some of the top European teams come over here and demonstrate what GT4 is really all about," added Spence. Click to download the Euro GT results

Carrera Cup GB - Andrew Herron will make his Porsche Carrera Cup GB debut at Knockhill (15/16 August), when he takes his prize for being one of the six finalists in the 2009 Carrera Cup Scholarship Programme. "I've never had as much fun in my life as I did in those 20 laps round Silverstone during the Carrera Cup Scholarship. Racing the car at Knockhill is going to be a bit challenging; it's not the easiest circuit to have your first race in a rear-wheel drive car." With no Renault Clio races at Knockhill, the Scottish track is the logical weekend for Andrew to race in the Carrera Cup. "Knockhill fits in with my Renault Clio programme as I didn’t really want to race both cars in one weekend. I've no major expectations for the weekend. I just want to go out there and enjoy myself. "The whole Porsche package is great for sponsors and we're definitely looking to try and do the Carrera Cup next year. That's where I want to be in 2010."

Team managers in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB have reacted with universal approval of the plans for the 2010 championship, which were unveiled at Snetterton over the weekend.
The 2010 Carrera Cup GB will build on the success of 2009, with continuity of technical regulations, a prime place on the BTCC support programme, first class television and the standard setting race centre. “The grids are very good and Porsche is doing the right thing to stay with the existing cars,” said Simon Leonard of Red Line Racing. “It gives us continuity and stability for the future. We’ve already got interest from drivers new to the championship about 2010.” Stuart Parker of Team Parker Racing echoed Leonard’s comments. “We’re all in a very testing economic environment so to stay with the same cars makes a lot of sense,” said Parker. “It’s a very logical decision and I’m very pleased. We plan to be back next year with a full complement of cars.”  David Bartrum of Motorbase Performance said that business stability was very important for the teams. “The continuity is excellent for the business,” said Bartrum. “We can maintain and build on what we’ve got and we have already had a lot of interest for 2010. The Carrera Cup GB is now one of the best race series in the country.”
Managers of other key teams confirmed their intention to continue in 2010. “This year is putting us on the map in the Carrera Cup and we’d like to expand the team to three cars next year,” said Paul Leach of JHR. Celtic Motorsport also plans to continue with a major presence. “We’re very happy with the early announcement about next season,” said Celtic’s Alan Keith. “I’m already 99% sure we’ll have two cars and probably three.” Meanwhile, two teams that are mounting limited programmes in 2009 intend to increase their commitment for 2010. “We’re going to come back to the Carrera Cup fulltime in 2010; probably with two cars,” said Nick Dudfield of IN2Racing. The same applies to Team JMH. “We’re looking to be more regularly involved next year,” said team boss Jason Hughes. “As a team we’d like to run two cars in 2010.”

Neuhoff gave the car a front-running track debut in the Silverstone 24 Hours last season. It is now fitted with a 2-litre ex-Golf GTI normally aspirated petrol engine and will, says KPM Racing boss Poole, be a potent weapon: "It has the same engine as the Golf driven by the championship leader, Didge Dziurzynski, and hopefully we can give Didge a run for his money. Mike is a great talent and I am looking forward to working with him again." Neuhoff won six rounds of the 2001 VW Racing Cup on his way to the title. Mike's Golf TDI claimed the first British race win for a diesel in 2002, and he was a winner again in 2004.  "I haven't raced since the Silverstone 24 Hours a year ago," says Mike, "so I need to get in training. At least I know the car, even if when I raced it last it had a diesel engine. It will be good to get back in action." Another returning face expected at Silverstone is that of Nick Beaumont, who was third in the championship in 2003. He will pilot the Europcar-backed Golf GTI usually raced by Michael McInerney. Simon Elliott is following in the wheeltracks of Peter Wyhinny, his predecessor at the helm of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Elliott will drive a RacingLine-prepared Golf GTI bedecked in the colours of Scunthorpe United FC, of which he is a director. "It's something I've always wanted to do," he says. "I've done track days and so on but have never had the opportunity before now to race competitively. RacingLine have led me through passing my track test and getting my licence and, if I enjoy my debut I'll definitely look at doing some more."

IndyCar - Ryan Briscoe was a heartbreaker for Vision Racing at the weekend. The Team Penske driver held off a hard-charging Ed Carpenter to win the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway. It was the second victory of the season for Briscoe and gave him the points lead by eight over Scott Dixon, who finished seventh, and by 11 over Dario Franchitti (sixth place) heading to Mid-Ohio for the next round of the championship. Carpenter, who started 14th in the No. 20 Menard's entry, had his best finish in seven IndyCar Series seasons and the best on an oval in the five-year history of Vision Racing. Through the final stops, Carpenter led Briscoe by 0.3657s on lap 180 before Briscoe reclaimed the lead on lap 192. The cars' sidepods appeared to be glued together on the closing laps - 0.0018 on lap 193, 0.0080 on lap 195, 0.0123 on lap 199.  The final margin of victory was .0162 of a second, the 11th-closest finish in series history while Briscoe's average speed of 200.893 mph was the second-fastest race in series history. Tony Kanaan rebounded from his pit lane fire in Edmonton to take third in the No. 11 Team 7-Eleven car. Helio Castroneves was fourth for Team Penske  with Graham Rahal fifth in the No. 02 McDonald's car for Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing.

Carrera Cup GB - Tim Harvey completed the double at Snetterton this afternoon (Sunday) when he took his second win of the weekend  in round 12 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB. Glynn Geddie (below) did the same trick in pro-am1 winning twice as well while in pro-am2 Paul Hogarth came out on top after a fierce tussle with Paul Mace and Glenn McMenamin.

LMS - Danny Watt’s and Strakka Racing’s Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S came close to leading the LMS race  in the Algarve and but for electrical gremlins they may have even won. For the first hour and 40 minutes Watts had raced with the leaders in the first night race in the LMS calendar. but just as the light started to vanish so did the team’s chances as a succession of electrical faults ended their run.

OAK Racing Team Mazda France had a disappointing result in the third round of the LMS in the Algarve. Adter taking podiums in LMP2 at Le Mans and Spa a sixth and eighth place finish for their two cars was a bit of a let down,.

The 007 Aston Martin LMP1 driven by Charouz (CZ), Tomas Enge (CZ) and Stefan Mücke (DE) came in second in last nights Algarve 1000 kilometres in Portugal. Their team-mates in the 009 Aston, Harold Primat (CH), Miguel Ramos (PT) and Darren Turner (GB) crossed the line in fifth .

Formula Ford - Borland Racing’s Scott Pye was the man of the moment at Sandown this weekend winning both today’s races (Sunday) although he needed a tiny mistake from Chaz Mostert in race two this morning to ‘nick’ the win. Mostert was superb all weekend and could easily have picked up a victory but a combination of bad luck and unfortunate mistakes conspired against him. He did however get two very well deserved..

Carrera Cup- GB - Tim Harvey won in some style in the first race of the weekend in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Snetterton. Leading from lights to flag Harvey not only won the race but with it the Championship lead as well. Glynn Geddie won in pro-am1 while pro-am2 went to Glenn McMenamin.

Clios -  Total Control Racing had an excellent start to the weekend at Snetterton yesterday (Saturday). Alex MacDowall (On the left beside Sam Tordoff - pic Jakob Ebrey Photography) things going with his third win of then year in the Elf Renault Clio Cup while Carl Breeze made it a hat-trick of wins for the team with two superb victories in the Michelin Ginetta G50 Cup.

Ginettas- Total Control Racing’s Carl Breeze made a remarkable comeback from his huge accident in at Oulton park in May to record two dominant wins in the G50 Ginetta Cup at Snetterton on Saturday.  He also has pole for today’s race which along with the points accumulated yesterday puts him right back on track in the title chase

Carrera Cup GB - Tim Harvey and James Sutton each took a pole position ahead of rounds 11 and 12 of the 2009 Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Snetterton today (Saturday).  Harvey claimed top spot for round 11, while his Red Line Racing teammate Sutton took pole for round 12. Meanwhile, Glynn Geddie topped the pro-am1 times for both races and Paul Hogarth took a double pole in pro-am2. Although rain threatened, the track stayed dry in a close and hard fought qualifying session. before Harvey took pole for round 11, ending Tim Bridgman's unbroken run of 10 poles in a row. "At last," said a delighted Harvey. "It's good to be on top on sheer speed and great to finally get a pole. This has always been a good circuit for me." Lapping within a tenth of Harvey were Sutton and Bridgman (Team Parker Racing), but it was Sutton who set the fastest second-best lap in qualifying to take pole for round 12. "I was trying really hard to bolt two good laps together," said Sutton. Harvey was second for round 12 from Bridgman as 0.03s covered the top three cars. "I had a car good enough for pole and each time I went for a lap I got traffic," said Bridgman. Fourth fastest for both races was Michael Caine (Motorbase Performance) and it was Geddie (Team Parker Racing) who took fifth for both races and a double pole in the pro-am1 category. "That's where we need to be," said Geddie. Derek Pierce and Robert Lawson shared fourth and fifth places in pro-am1. Hogarth (IN2Racing) topped pro-am2 for both races. "That was very, very tight indeed," said Hogarth. "It was a fantastic session; I'm very pleased with that." Taking the fight to Hogarth was Glenn McMenamin (Parr Motorsport) and Paul Mace (GT Marques) and with a fifth of a second covering the top three cars the stage is set for a great contest in pro-am2 as well as for the overall and pro-am1 podiums.

LMS - Tommy Erdos took an RML Lola back up to the front row in LMP2 for a round of the Le Mans Series for the first time for over a season by qualifying second for today's Algarve 1000 Kilometres, only to see his achievement knocked back ten places down the grid just a few minutes later. The penalty wasn’t unexpected, but still came as a considerable disappointment after the team had worked so hard to achieve a near-perfect set-up for the undulating and very technical Autodromo do Algarve. Unfortunately, an engine failure in the previous round at Spa meant a new unit had to be fitted ahead of the Portuguese race, and that incurred an automatic ten-place qualifying penalty and a further two-point deduction from the team’s championship tally. So, instead of lining up second in class and 12th overall, the RML Lola Mazda Coupé will begin from 21st and last-but-one in LMP2. “It’s very disappointing to get penalised in this way, through no fault of our own,” said Tommy Erdos, “but it’s in the regulations, and we have to abide by the organisers’ decision. At least we know what we’ve achieved. The chassis is great – just fantastic - and the handling is excellent. We made some bold changes after the last Free Practice session, and they were the right changes. All credit to the team, they’ve created a really good car for us, and even though we’ll be starting from the second half of the grid, I’m still looking forward to carrying that potential into the race.” pic Marcus Potts CMC

LMS - Aston Martin Racing will start the third round of the Le Mans Series at the Autodromo Internacional Algarve today from 2nd and 5th on the grid, after strong qualifying performances from Stefan Mücke in the 007 car and Darren Turner in 009. The qualifying session lasted just 20 minutes, but was long enough for Mücke to secure a place on the front row of the grid with a lap time of 1min31.160s. Czech drivers Jan Charouz and Tomas Enge complete the driver line-up in 007 for Saturday’s race.Mücke said: “I am a little bit disappointed not to get pole because it would have been nice to get the extra point for the championship but second place is still good. I think it is better than we expected because this circuit does not really suit our car. I am very optimistic for the race as the car is consistent and I don’t think it matters too much if you are on the left or right of the front row. After all, we are racing for six hours so the most important thing is to have a clear run without any mistakes.”  Turner – who shares the 009 car with Harold Primat (CH) and Miguel Ramos (PT) did a 1m31.556s. “I had one clear run but then the traffic was quite bad for the rest of my laps,” said Turner. “It wasn’t the tidiest of qualifying sessions; I had some problems with the car loosing traction into the corners but hopefully with the cooler temperature at night we should be fine during the race.”  The commences at 19:15 this evening (Saturday ). For live timing visit www.lemans-series.com or listen online at www.radiolemans.com . The race will be broadcast live on Eurosport International on Saturday from 20:00 to 21:30 and on Sunday from 00:45 to 02:15

trakka Racing’s Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S will start from fourth on the grid for this evening’s first-ever Le Mans Series “night race” in the Algarve. Although Danny Watts had been quickest outright in two out of the three Free Practice sessions, the team’s Chief Engineer and Team Manager Piers Phillips wasn’t overly surprised when the former Formula Renault and A1GP winner couldn’t repeat that in qualifying. Having been fastest in both the first two practice sessions, when track conditions were closer to those predicted for Saturday’s race, a sense of buoyant enthusiasm pervades the team. “We can feel really positive that we’ve achieved a car that’s well set-up, and qualifying is such a very small part of a 1000 kilometre endurance race,” said Danny Watts. “Yes, it’s nice to be on pole, but what is much more important is that we have a car that’s easy to drive, competitive, and has the capacity to improve performance as the temperature drops. It’s a reassuring position to be in.” Co-driving the Ginetta-Zytek is Nick Leventis. “It’s going to be a particular challenge at a track where negotiating traffic was always going to be an issue,” suggests Nick. “The blind crests and corners will be even more interesting when you add in the reduced visibility of racing in the dark. Even so, from our experiences last night, in the late practice session, it may not be as bad as we’d thought. The major concern may be how others deal with it.” Racing at night, when track temperatures fall to 20 degrees or less, but testing largely during the day when the surface exceeds 50 degrees, has certainly thrown up its own set of challenges. “It hasn’t been the easiest race to prepare for,” concedes Nick. “Much of the data we collected during the heat of the day will be of no relevance to the race, but we’re both happy with the car, and Danny drove a tremendous lap to be just four-tenths off pole.” Pole for tonight’s race fell to Nicolas Lapierre in the Oreca AIM #11, with Stefan Mucke’s Aston Martin Lola second and Bruno Senna in the second Oreca claiming third. pic Marcus Potts CMC

Formula Ford - Chaz Mostert may have started from pole for round five of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Sandown today but it was the weather that decided the final outcome. Both Mostert and his fellow front row starter Luke Ellery spun off in the slippery conditions leaving the way clear for New Zealander Mitch Evans to come through and win.  However the results are still provisional after he had a ‘moment’ with third placed Ritchie Stanaway which has come to the attention of the stewards. Evans' Sonic Racing teammate Nick Percat drove a brilliant race to come from eighth to finish second.

Formula BMW - BMW is cancelling the Formula BMW Americas series. The Formula BMW Europe and Formula BMW Pacific series, which have attracted stronger fields, will continue.“In the current economic conditions, it has proven difficult to establish the young driver program as successfully on American soil as managed by its sister series in their respective regions,” BMW said in a statement announcing the decision. “Taken in combination with the – by comparison with Europe and Asia – vastly different motorsport infrastructures prevailing in the Americas, this led to the decision to cease promoting the series in future. BMW will still hold a F1 test for 2008 Americas and European series champions Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez.  American Rossi, now racing in International Formula Master, earned his chance to drive F1 machinery after winning the Formula BMW World Final last year, while Mexico’s Gutierrez won the Formula BMW Europe title last season. “Despite having announced our exit from Formula 1 this week, we will honour our commitments to young drivers in Formula BMW,” said BMW Motorsport director Mario Theissen. “Thus we are looking forward to granting another two Formula BMW graduates the opportunity of gathering experience in a Formula 1 car.”
