PODIUM FINALE FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom Finishes the SEAT Cupra Championship in Fine Form with a Pair of Podiums

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) finished the SEAT Cupra Championship with a pair of superb performances seeing him finish 2nd in both races at the season finale held at Thruxton.

A brake problem hampered the Surrey teenager’s qualifying session in which he took 5th and 2nd on the grids for the weekend’s double header event but the Advent Motorsport team soon remedied the problem to ensure the HipHipHooray.com backed driver was back to top form for the all important races.

Both races saw Freddy in his finest fighting form with the action fast and close. With few passing places at Thruxton Freddy still managed to scythe through the field and both races saw him and Ian Churchill have an electrifying battle at the front of the R Class.  In both races Freddy set the fastest lap, further cementing his position as one of the pacesetters of the season. Finishing both races in 2nd was a well deserved finish for Freddy who has finished 50% of his races this year on the podium!

“It has been a good season in all” says Freddy who finishes the Championship in 4th, “and a great learning curve. Being part of the TOCA paddock certainly makes you feel in the heart of British motorsport which is very inspiring so I can’t wait for 2008 now!”

Freddy will now test a new SEAT Leon which he hopes to contend in 2008, and will spend the winter testing and looking to raise the necessary funding for next year’s campaign.

NORDSTROM ON FORM IN SCOTLAND

Freddy Nordstrom On The Podium At Knockhill In The Latest SEAT Cupra Round

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) took the long journey to north of the border for the 17th and 18th rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Knockhill, Fife.

With a 3rd and 2nd place starting position on the R Class grid, Freddy was well placed as were his three rivals, the quartet all battling it out for honours at the top of the Championship table.

For the first race on Sunday morning, Scotland had provided difficult to read track conditions with the circuit very damp but with further rain staying away.  Freddy and Advent Motorsport made the right decision choosing to go out on wet tyres, which gave him ample grip on the tight, twisting and undulating circuit.  Alongside R Class Championship leader Harry Vaulkhard, Freddy was pulling away from the pack. Finishing in 2nd place Freddy notched up his eighth podium finish of the year.

By the second race the track was dry whilst overhead remained cloudy.  Bumper to bumper racing ensued to entertained the packed crowd, with Freddy finishing just outside the podium positions in a strong 4th place.

Freddy leaves Knockhill 4th in the R Class Championship with the final race weekend lying ahead at Thruxton on 14-15th October, where he could still steal the runner ups spot so a sensational season finale is on the cards for the Surrey youngster!

NORDSTROM BATTLES AT BRANDS

Freddy Nordstrom Just Podium Shy At The Latest Round of the SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) had a tough battle at the 15th and 16th rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Brands Hatch.

Making an excellent start to the weekend in his R Class, Advent Motorsport prepared SEAT, Freddy comfortably posted class pole position for Race One, and second on the grid for Race Two in the weekend’s double header event.

With the car set up feeling good and suited to the fast Brands Hatch Indy circuit, HipHipHooray.com backed Freddy was keen to amass more championship points in the fiercely competitive series.

Race One was heralded by rain on the Kent circuit and Freddy’s pole position advantage was quickly dampened too. After being nudged by a competitor at the start the Surrey youngster dropped to 5th position.  The conditions were helping to cause further carnage and a safety car period was declared. When race pace restarted Freddy made a storming drive to get back up to fourth position, just shy of a podium finish.

By Race Two the rain clouds had left and the track dried but once again Freddy was to inherit the misfortune of others when a car spun across him at the start of the race forcing him to take evasive action and dropping him from 2nd to 7th in the R Class.  Mirroring the first race of the day, another safety car period was called, bunching the field back up.  On the restart Freddy was really battling, scything through the field into fourth position.  Taking the fight to the chequered flag Freddy closed in to just 0.391 seconds of 3rd placed Adrian Churchill but the podium was just elusive.

“The car’s handling was good, our pace was good” said Freddy afterwards, “ but disappointing not to make the podiums. But. I battled my best with the hand I was given today.”

Freddy remains in 4th in the Championship with leader Harry Vaulkhard going into the final two race weekends with a very strong, though not unattainable, lead.  The battle for 2nd is closer still and we can be sure Freddy will be demonstrating his usual determination until the very last corner of the season!

Whilst the racing had been fierce and he had not finished as high as he would have liked, Freddy was still in celebratory mood having received his A-level results prior to the race weekend, which sees him secure his place at his first choice University to study Business and French.

With four rounds left, Freddy next takes to the track on 2nd-3rd September with a long journey to Scotland and the Knockhill track.

PODIUM COMEBACK FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom On The Podium At Snetterton In The Latest SEAT Cupra Round

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) made a welcome return to the podium in the SEAT Cupra Championship at Snetterton,  following the carnage of the previous round at Donington which saw his SEAT Cupra R heavily damaged.

Thanks to the industrious work of SEAT, Vehicle Recovery and Advent Motorsport, Freddy was back on track for the 13th and 14th rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship at the Norfolk circuit of Snetterton.

After a comfortable qualifying, the bad luck seemed to have followed Freddy from the previous round as in the first race of the weekend he came to a standstill just metres of the startline when a broken driveshaft caused his retirement.

Lightening quick work by Advent Motorsport saw him back on the grid for the second race, with Freddy now eager to make amends for the recent bad fortune.  As the lights went out Freddy made a good start whilst around him carnage broke loose.  HipHipHooray.com backed Freddy took quick thinking evasive action taking to the grass to avoid the crowd of spinning cars and this time luck was on his side as he cleared the chaos unscathed!

With the race red flagged, it was a three quarters of an hour wait until it could be restarted behind the safety car. Freddy made a good start and with R Class race leader, Harry Vaulkhard in his sights he raced hard in the reclassified 14 lap race.  With a loss of rear end grip Freddy couldn’t make the move on Vaulkhard but after recent experiences a return to the R Class podium in 2nd place was a very welcome result.

“It was a tough weekend” said Freddy afterwards. “The first race was very disappointing with the driveshaft failure being the worst timing but thankfully the team were able to get me back on track for the second race.  It was a relief to be back on the podium!”

DISASTER IN THE WET FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom’s Weekend Brought To An Abrupt End In The Rain Soaked

SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom suffered a miserable weekend in the latest round of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Donington Park.  The race weekend lived up to having Friday the 13th in its date and was hampered by consistent and at times torrential rain throughout the event.

Misfortune hit the Surrey youngster from qualifying when a mechanical problem with the car proved difficult to pin point seeing Freddy qualifying well down the field, uncustomary for the driver who is usually at the fore of the R Class. However, even with this set back Freddy was confident he could make up places in the weekend’s double header event, which would in turn gain valuable Championship points.

Sunday morning saw the Leicestershire race track awash as a heavy deluge hit the circuit.  With their first race scheduled at 9.05am it was a grim start to the day which was going to get worse for the unfortunate Nordstrom.  As the cars sped to the first corner the spray from the cars was immense creating a murky wall of water and a red haze from brake lights.  As the spray settled it was soon apparent a number of cars had spun, collecting others, leading to a chain reaction of heavy impacts including Freddy’s HipHipHooray.com back SEAT Cupra R.  With severe damage to the front left of his car it was an event ending incident for Nordstrom who had come to the event third in the R Class Championship.

With the first race stopped and restarted, it was some little comfort for the many who could not restart that the now shortened race was only eligible for half points somewhat denting the damage to the Championship hopes of those who were now out of the running.  Championship leader, Ian Churchill, like Freddy, was out in the first incident and similarly could not start the second race ensuring the title battle remains open.

“That’s been a gutting weekend, my worse case scenario” said Freddy afterwards, “but we have to quickly get ourselves back up and dusted down for the next race in a weekend’s time.”

The next race is at Snetterton on 28-29th July when all the drivers will be hoping for better conditions and less drama!

PAIR OF PODIUMS FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom Takes Two Podium Finishes as the SEAT Cupra Championship Reaches the Halfway Mark.

Freddy Nordstrom  continued to put in fine performances as he raced to two podium finishes in the latest rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Oulton Park, Cheshire.

The weekend was dogged by changeable weather but this did not dampen the Surrey student’s spirits.  A strong qualifying session saw him secure 2nd on the R Class grid for both races in the weekend’s double header event.

Race One on Sunday morning saw the cars take to the grid with slick tyres when the heavens decided to open. The race was declared wet and all competitors were allowed to change onto wet tyres making the grid a hive of activity.

“With changeable weather over the weekend it was actually a blessing that it decided on just rain for the first race” said Freddy afterwards. “I don’t mind a wet race at all and feel with the team [Advent Motorsport] we have a good car set up whatever the weather throws at us.”

At the start Freddy fell from second to fourth but soon battled back to 3rd place in a race that saw a number of drivers spin off the wet track and the safety car making an appearance. Through the gloom and spray 3rd place on the podium was a worthy finish and ensured more points in the Championship bank.

By the second race late on Sunday afternoon, the track couldn’t be more different - now bone dry!  After a trouble free start Freddy found himself  stuck behind Tim Bevan, but he made an impressive move that stuck on lap 5 to take 3rd place and began to make inroads on the leading two – the Churchill brothers.  As he reeled them in though fate was to stop any fight as the race was reduced to 9 laps from 12 after delays to the day required the race to be shortened.

“Two third places are good and consistent” said Freddy “but obviously I want to win! The title race is still very close but now more than ever you realise every finish and every point counts. The second half of the season will be really exciting!”

Freddy now lies 3rd in the R Class Championship with the next rounds to be held at Donington park (Leicestershire) on 14-15th July.

In the meantime Freddy has another challenge, sitting his A-levels!

MIXED FORTUNES FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom Has Mixed Luck at Latest Round of the SEAT Cupra Championship

Arriving at Croft as R Class Championship leader the initial signs were good with Freddy a frontrunner in Friday’s testing session and taking just one lap per qualifying session to comfortably take 2nd on the R Class grid for both of the weekend’s double header events.

Race One, held in bright sunshine, saw Freddy drop momentarily to 3rd but he was soon back into 2nd place with his eyes on the leader. In his hunt for the lead spot Freddy put in a stunning fastest lap, earning himself a Championship point but sadly bad luck was to play its part as Freddy had to retire when a fuel pump fuse went, a rare mechanical failure.

With the disappointment of Race One behind him, it was early Sunday evening as they headed out for Race Two. Freddy dropped into 3rd place but had a close and thrilling battle for 2nd place which saw them side by side as they entered the pit straight, the closeness highlighted by the orange paint left on Freddy’s tyres! Freddy got into 2nd place with a brave move but the leader, Ian Churchill, had used the time and clear track to pull out a large lead which proved unassailable.  However, after the bad luck of Race One, Freddy was more than content to take a podium finish in the second race and add further valuable points to his Championship campaign.

“Race One was very disappointing” said Freddy afterwards, “the only consolation was getting a point for fastest lap. Race Two was a lot better though Ian Churchill was able to pull out a big lead whilst I battled for 2nd. In terms of the Championship it sees me in 4th in the R Class but it is still far too close to call between the top five and everything is still to play for!”

Freddy’s next race, which marks the halfway point of the season, takes place on 23-24 June at the Cheshire circuit of Oulton Park

DOUBLE VICTORY FOR NORDSTROM

Freddy Nordstrom Takes a Clean Sweep at Thruxton With Double Triumph In SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge) took a sensational pair of wins at the latest round of the SEAT Cupra Championsip. Driving his Advent Motorsport prepared SEAT Leon R Class, the Surrey teenager dominated events with a spectacular brace of drives in the competitive series, fresh on the heels of his win at the last round.

Freddy’s pace was evident from the outset when once again he was at the forefront of the R Class field in qualifying. In the R Class he took third on the grid for Race One, but was once again on pole position for Race Two, his third pole of the year.

The first race of the weekend’s double header was to see Freddy pick his way through the field to the lead after dropping to 4th after the start. Constant lap times and faultless driving saw Freddy come home for his second win of the year, taking fastest lap honours on the way.

The second race was to be an altogether more dramatic event.  Freddy used his R Class pole position to good advantage and took the lead but with incidents elsewhere causing a safety car period to be called the field remained bunched up. When racing resumed everyone was eager to get away and in the melee Freddy touched the dirty side of the track entering Goodwood corner and went off the circuit.

“The barrier was coming at me very quickly!” said a characteristically calm Freddy afterwards. “I had the car on full lock, just missed the barrier and was able to recover the car and get back on track.”

His quick excursion had put him down into 7th place, and in many eyes surely out of contention but Freddy had other ideas! In a determined drive that confounded onlookers Freddy was putting in laps with times akin to qualifying pace and was soon on the tail of the leaders. Back in contention he set about picking his rivals off and lead the last two laps to take a stunning victory – completing his hat trick of three wins in the last three rounds!

“It has been a fantastic weekend, a pole, two fastest laps and two wins” said Freddy. “I just wanted to get out there, show what pace we have and that whatever happens, it isn’t over till the chequered flag drops!  The car has a fluid leak but that will easily be mended before the next round and if anything it is amazing that is all that needs attention after what I asked of the car in the second race today!”

Freddy’s superb weekend further catapults him into Championship contention. He now lies 2nd in the Championship just a single point behind Henry Vaulkhard. With his title ambitions firmly on track Freddy’s next race is at Croft in North Yorkshire on 3rd June. After being top of the class at Thruxton it is back to the classroom proper for Freddy as he sits his A-levels in what is proving to be a very busy year for the talented youngster.

Freddy has recently launched a website, www.freddynordstrom.co.uk,  where you can follow his seasons progress.

NORDSTROM ROLLS TO A WIN AT ROCKINGHAM

Freddy Nordstrom Takes His First Win of the Season in the SEAT Cupra Championship

Freddy Nordstrom (Weybridge, Surrey) took a sensational win at this weekend’s SEAT Cupra Championship event at Rockingham, Northamptonshire though it wasn’t all plain sailing for the teenager!

Having never raced at Rockingham before, Freddy took full advantage of the practice sessions and was once again proving himself a front runner in the R Class. This momentum carried forwarded into qualifying for the weekend’s double header event. In qualifying one Freddy took R Class pole position by a whisker from the Churchill brothers Ian and Adrian. In qualifying 2 Freddy had to be satisfied with second quickest time of the R Class. Both grid positions put Freddy in strong contention for the races, confirming his position as ‘one to watch’ amongst the young hot shoes.

As the lights went out for race one and the field sped to the first corner, overall pole sitter Carl Breeze was clipped and spun, leading to a heavy collision with Daniel Welch. The leading R Cupras of Freddy and Ian Churchill approached the melee with nowhere to go, both ending up in the ‘kitty litter’ gravel safety run off. Though his race over before the first corner, thankfully Freddy’s car was relatively unscathed; not so for Ian Churchill whose car suffered damage which put him out of contention for the rest of the weekend.

After the drama and disappointment of race one, Freddy and his the Advent Motorsport team regrouped over lunch, dusted themselves off and were back to make amends in the second race.

With another collision at the head of the pack at the start of race two, Freddy this time was able to find a small gap to avoid the commotion and sped off into the R Class lead. It was a lead that was soon to become unassailable with Freddy setting some stunning race lap times, easily taking the R Class fastest lap of the race.

As the chequered flag fell, Freddy took the win by an outstanding 18seconds. And not content with winning the R Class, Freddy finished hot on the tail of a new Leon in the class above proving that this year’s two class series is providing excitement throughout the field for drivers and spectators alike.

"It feels good to get our first win under our belt" said Freddy afterward. "Hopefully bypassing trouble ahead at the race starts won't become a norm but we proved today what we can do when we get passed the first corner unscathed!!"

Freddy’s next race is at the Hampshire circuit of Thruxton on 4-5th May, a fast and sweeping circuit that many drivers, including Freddy, favour so the action is sure to be edge of the seat again

A ROLLERCOASTER FOR NORDSTROM’S SEAT DEBUT

Highs and Lows In Freddy Nordstrom’s First SEAT Cupra Championship Round

Freddy is contesting this years R Class Championship in the highly competitive series in his SEAT Cupra Leon R, with all the races taking place on the prestigious British Touring Car Championship package. Each race weekend sees the Championship contest two rounds.

Friday’s practice sessions went well and spirits were high for  qualifying on Saturday when the Kent weather decided to add to the mix!  Qualifying One was held in the morning on a heavily damp circuit which certainly didn’t deter Freddy who sped to the fastest R Class time and ninth overall.

By the afternoon it felt like a different circuit as the track had dried but once again Freddy showed his pace and was second fastest in the R Class and 14th overall, confirming two impressive starting places for Sunday’s race.

After the jubilation of qualifying both races were to hand bitter blows to Freddy’s campaign.

In Round One it was drama before the first corner. Ahead of Freddy on the grid a moment of mayhem saw racers Adam, Mussi and Welch tangle with the latter two being taken off and leaving a cloud of dust for the followers to drive into. As a result Stephen Whyte spun in front of Freddy who had to take evasive action which on cold tyres sent him into a spin. Rejoining at the back of the pack it became apparent that having been hit in the melee Freddy's car was suffering a lower suspension arm problem but he was able to carry on, at a pace to sedate for his liking, but gritty determination meant he would finish the first race ( and pick up three points in doing so!)  A busy afternoon in the Advent Motorsport pit followed to get the car back into relative shape for the second round.

Round Two had an equally drama filled start with the front row sitters Breeze and Adam both having disastrous starts, everyone behind had to make split seconds decisions as they sped around them, once again leading to a bunch up into the front corner.

Freddy once again found himself nudged by others which caused him to fall back before being nudged wide by Bevan. Despite the car being battered and bruised, Freddy again showed his battling side to come home 6th in class for nine points.

Freddy comes away from the first weekend disappointed but fired up for the long season ahead.

"We showed how competitive and quick we are in qualifying" said Freddy. "In the wet we have a very good set up as we demonstrated and now we have to fine tweak the dry set up. It is gutting after the good qualifying for it not to be translated into the race."

Freddy lies joint sixth in the R Class Championship standings with his next race at Rockingham in Northamptonshire in three weeks time.
