 Freddy Nordstrom 2008

PODIUM JOY FOR FREDDY NORDSTROM

Weybridge Racing Driver Freddy Nordstrom Takes 2nd Place At Snetterton For His Debut SEAT Podium.

Freddy Nordstrom (put in a superb performance to take 2nd place, and his first podium finish of the season, in the first race of the SEAT Cupra Championship’s triple header at Snetterton at the weekend. The weekend was boasting an extra race than the usual two round format due to a round being cancelled at the last meeting due to weather conditions.

Driving the PlumberTraining.com backed SEAT Leon, he started 5th on the grid for the first race of the day. 19 year old Freddy, the youngest driver in the Championship, drove a flawless and determined race to take the second step of the podium behind local winner, Carl Breeze.

“It was great to be on the SEAT podium for the first time” said a delighted Freddy afterwards. “The car ran very well and I really enjoyed the race. Carl was just 0.4secs in front of me but I am more than satisfied with the 2nd place.”

The second race of the afternoon saw Freddy take 6th place, and more valuable Championship points. But, it was to be disappointment in the third race which was shown live on ITV4. Locked in a superb battle with 3 other cars, Daniel Rowbottom’s car lost control, cut across the grass and back onto the track collecting Freddy on its way. The front of Freddy car was damaged and he sadly had to return to the pits and retire.

“That was a disappointing end to a great day” said Freddy “but I don’t believe it was malicious on Dan’s part. We can leave knowing we are capable of podiums which makes me all the more excited for the next race.”

His points haul from Snetterton sees Freddy rise to 8th in the Championship standings.

NORDSTROM IGNORES ILLNESS TO BAG POINTS IN THE WET

Racing Driver Freddy Nordstrom Ignores Food Poisoning For A Top Eight Finish In Treacherous Conditions

Freddy Nordstrom ignored illness to take a points finish in the latest round of the SEAT Cupra Championship which was to be disrupted by torrential rain at Croft, Yorkshire.

The weekend started in great form for the Surrey teenager with a day’s testing on Friday which saw him fifth fastest, setting high hopes for qualifying the next day. Sadly, Freddy was to be struck down with food poisoning and in no condition to enjoy the sun shining on the Yorkshire circuit for Saturday’s qualifying. Freddy put in a valiant effort and whilst only being well enough to put in three laps still managed to qualify eighth! A very pale Freddy commentated “That wasn’t fun!”

Whilst Freddy felt slightly brighter on Sunday the same could not be said of the weather. From t-shirts the day before, everyone had to reach for waterproofs on Sunday and even they couldn’t turn the torrential rain that followed. Large amounts of standing water on the track saw racing temporarily suspended for safety reasons, meaning the timetable was thrown into disarray.

The first to take on the treacherous conditions after the delay were the SEAT Cupras. Despite being below par himself, Freddy put on a superb display of concentration in the difficult conditions which largely saw the field remain in grid order. Coming home in eighth place meaning more valuable points for Freddy.

“At times the spray was so heavy you couldn’t see a thing in front of you. I knew there was a car there but it was just a wall of grey water to look at!” said Freddy afterwards. “Even at the end I couldn’t see the chequered flag for the spray!”

With the timetable running late the second SEAT Cupra race of the weekend was cancelled and will be run at a later meeting in the season.

MECHANICAL WOES THWART NORDSTROM AT DONINGTON

Freddy Nordstrom’s Latest Race Blighted By Mechanical Failure.

Freddy Nordstrom suffered a tough weekend at the 5th and 6th rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Donington Park on Sunday. The Surrey teenager was blighted by a glitch in his new SEAT Leon which saw him qualify in a lowly 13th for both of the weekend’s races.

As the team worked hard to find the mysterious gremlin there looked to be some glimmer of hope when at the start of race one Freddy drove beyond the limits of the car to make places up and get to within sight of a superb battle for 5th, 6th and 7th when a sudden and dramatic loss of power saw him retire to the pit lane. The battle was on to find and solve the problem before the second race of the weekend. Despite a number of changes the mysterious loss of power struck as Freddy left the grid for race two and after three laps it was time for the second heartbreaking retirement of the weekend.

The team will now consult with SEAT with regards to a possible gearbox problem whilst all other scenarios are taken into consideration, all within the limits of little time before the next race at Thruxton in two weeks time.

Remaining upbeat Freddy said afterwards “Yes, this pretty much is a worse case scenario for a racing driver and I can’t help but feel disappointed as I always want the best result not just for myself but for my team who work so hard and those who have supported us this weekend, www.plumbertraining.com and Any Question Answered 63336. Sadly race cars can be a bit temperamental! In the first race before the loss of power I was able to really storm up the pack and test my driving skills to the limit. Today was a day the learning curve was as steep as it gets but we will be back in fighting form!”

Whilst on track was difficult for Freddy, there were many positives from the weekend. Before the weekend, and showing their superb commitment to driver development in the series, SEAT UK organised a media training day for the drivers which Freddy very much enjoyed and found informative.

Over the race weekend spectators and fellow teams were enjoying the 100 free ‘Any Question Answered’ books given away from Freddy’s awning. The text service, which provides answers to literally any question, has proved a big hit since its launch in 2004 and their book of some of their interesting, difficult and plain bizarre answers provided proved a great in between race read and kick started some entertaining conversations in the paddock! Freddy was even spotted reading the book looking very much like The Stig! NORDSTROM IN BATTLING FORM AT ROCKINGHAM

Freddy Nordstrom Fights Back at Rockingham in the Latest  Rounds of the SEAT Cupra Championship.

Surrey teenager, Freddy Nordstrom put on a brave display at the 3rd and 4th rounds of the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship held at Rockingham circuit in Northamptonshire.

Freddy, the youngest on the SEAT Cupra grid and in only his second race weekend in the new SEAT Leon, was in lightening form during qualifying. He took 5th on the grid for both of the weekend’s races, taking just one fast lap in second qualifying to post such a competitive time.

Round 3 took place on Saturday afternoon and was a sadly short affair for Freddy when a spin and contact at the start knocked the car’s tracking and caused severe vibrations throughout the car which meant Freddy was forced to retire.

Disappointed by the day before, Freddy was in fighting form for Round 4 on Sunday held in changeable conditions. Disaster appeared to strike when Freddy spun on the damp circuit early in the first lap but he made a remarkable save. The nature of the gear system is such that the car must come to a stand still before the gear can be reselected so Freddy was relegated to the back of the pack as his rivals sped away. Back in 13th, Freddy appeared more determined than ever, caught his competitors and began scything through the field. In doing so he posted three fastest laps consecutively, attracting the praise of the TV commentators. Freddy finished 7th, scoring valuable points and proving an unwavering level of determination in his PlumberTraining.com backed car.

“It is hard not to be disappointed” said Freddy afterwards, “especially given our strong qualifying but I was determined never to give in and was pleased to reel back in the points in the second race.”

Rounds 5 and 6 are held at Donington Park on 3-4 May. Freddy’s season can be followed on his website www.freddynordstrom.com. The series is featured on ITV4.

NORDSTROM’S PROMISING START IN 2008 SEAT CUPRA CHAMPIONSHIP

Surrey Motorsport's  Freddy Nordstrom Makes A Solid Start To His 2008 Season

Freddy Nordstrom of Weybridge made a solid start to his 2008 campaign in the SEAT Cupra Championship held at Brands Hatch at the weekend. Racing his new SEAT Leon, backed by Surrey’s Building Trade Skills Centres PlumberTraining.com, Freddy was stepping up a level having competed in the R Class last year.

Up against the reigning SEAT Cupra Champion and a number of others who had already experienced a season of the SEAT Leon, Freddy was quick to make his mark as a potential front runner. In qualifying he qualified 8th and 4th for the weekend’s double header event.

Perhaps the greatest obstacle wasn’t going to be his fellow competitors but the changeable weather conditions over the Kent circuit. The first race took place on Sunday morning in cloudy conditions and a heavily damp track. Only one other race had been on the track and the time came to take the tyre gamble – wets or slicks. Freddy went out on wet tyres but the rain held off and the track began to dry off reasonably quickly putting him, and others on wets, to a disadvantage. Freddy came home in 10th position resigned to the fact that the tyre gamble hadn’t paid off.

By 5.30pm, and Race Two, the sky remained cloudy but the track dry. Starting from 6th on the grid Freddy was in storming form. He reeled in Carl Breeze who was in 4th place and the two battled nose to tail for the second half of the race. Freddy was unlucky not to make a move stick on a track where overtaking isn’t easy at the best of times but it certainly made for entertaining racing with Freddy displaying a mature race attitude. Coming home in 5th was a welcome result for the start of the season which sees a further 18 races over 9 weekends across Great Britain.

“It was an encouraging weekend” said Freddy afterwards. “We are still getting familiar with the car and I think for our first race we were solid and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season even more so now.”

The next race is at Rockingham in Northamptonshire on 12-13 April. Freddy’s season can be followed on his website www.freddynordstrom.com. The series is featured on ITV4.
