FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION™ for PLAYSTATION®3 the age of High Definition racing has arrived… As British hope Anthony Davidson looks forward to a starring role in this year’s Championship, the self confessed gamer jumped at the opportunity to clock up a few more miles in the Super Aguri F1 car when he put the new ‘Formula One Championship Edition game for Playstation 3 through the ultimate test. Marking a new era for High Definition, the covers came off the game at the launch held at 3Rooms - an exclusive bespoke designer venue for PLAYSTATION 3 in East London. Davidson was joined by ITV’s F1 commentator Martin Brundle and Radio 5 Live pit-lane reporter Holly Samos, as Sony Computer Entertainment unveiled the only official game of the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship™, available on next generation consoles. The game will star alongside an array of launch titles for Playstation 3, which will be available in shops throughout the UK from 23 March 2007. Davidson said, “Keeping up with the latest technology has always been one of my favourite past times and playing computer games offers an enjoyable way to relax away from the track. The advancements made to Playstation 3 have blown me away. The level of detail and advanced graphics are obvious improvements, but the way the cars handle compared to the track-going equivalent have exceeded all my expectations. I do use the games to get familiar with the circuits, so the advances made on the PS3 make it even more useful to simulate the driving experience in greater detail and realism.” The stunning graphics on Playstation 3 deliver the most realistic depictions of the sport ever seen. The attention to detail is clearly visible when playing the game. The gravel and road tracks are modelled to the correct square metre, reflections on the car change with the surrounding environments and circuit grandstands from around the world have been replicated with the exact number of seats. The real-to-life racing experience is even demonstrated when driving in the wet, as rain drops stream across the visor. Sony Computer Entertainment Studio Liverpool worked closely with all the F1™ teams to utilise data so each F1™ car looks and behaves exactly as it should do on the track. The game engine handles GP conditions to the highest level. Tyre temperatures are calculated and wear is introduced after a certain number of laps. Players can alter each F1 car to replicate the best set up for each circuit. F1 teams also provided the Sony technical team with audio files to maximise the sound system to recreate the distinguished roar of an F1 engine. Graeme Ankers, Sony Computer Entertainment Game Director of the ‘FORMULA ONE™ CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION’, said "Our exclusive relationship with Formula One Management Ltd and the teams has helped deliver a totally new consumer game experience that combines the power of Playstation 3 with the exhilaration and spectacle of F1. Short of pulling on gloves and a helmet this is as close to being in the driver’s seat as you’re going to get.”
