A team of
serving and ex-military personnel are arranging a commemorative charity
event set for 5th - 12th June 2009, titled
Push to Freedom.
A number of ex-patients of the military rehabilitation unit, DMRC Headley
Court will be hand biking from Portsmouth to Normandy and along the
invasion route of D-Day landings alongside a group of celebrity guests
who are donating their time and profiles to raise awareness of the
effort.
Tom Chilton, Leon Haslam, Callum Holland, Big Bob of Al Murray Fame,
Jamie Stanley and The Hoosiers are amongst some of the famous faces who
are supporting the charity handbike event alongside Raging Bull, Phil
Vickerys' clothing brand who are donating the teams sports-wear for the
event.
The event is set to commence its' launch at the D-Day museum in
Portsmouth on the 5th June 2009. Setting off from the museum, the group
will proceed to cover over 150 miles of the Normandy coast starting at
the infamous Pegasus Bridge, laying a wreath at each finish point during
the week until they reach Cherbourg.
The group are aiming to raise funds for a number of military charities
that offer serving and ex-servicemen and women real assistance with
their daily needs, with funds raised going directly to help those in
need. All funds raised by the group will be divided equally between the
respective service charities, ensuring that the dedicated personnel
recieve the care that they deserve.
Tony Phillips, who has worked closley as a recreational therapist with
the injured troops at Headley Court said, ' there are a number of
charities out there that state they are looking out for the guys and
girls that have been injured but we want to raise money that will
actually benefit the troops directly.'

Williams and 'Del', all ex-patients of the military rehabilitation
unit. Big Bob (of Al Murray Fame) and Tom Chilton (British Touring
