Souriau launches quick release battery connector that prevents thread damage and speeds up battery changes

Autosport International, NEC, Birmingham, 10-11th January, 2008. Stand E1351

Souriau’s new quick release battery connector extends battery life and enables quick battery replacement with no tooling.

Interconnect specialist, Souriau is launching the industry’s first quick release battery connector, eliminating the need for nuts, washers and ring terminals.  With no loose components, the battery can be replaced quickly without the need for any tools.

“Threaded battery terminal studs are very susceptible to damage which can eventually lead to connection problems,” says Mark Richardson, motorsport business manager, Souriau. “This can shorten the life of an otherwise functional battery and can cause a critical failure.”

The battery connector, compatible with all M6 stud terminals, is designed to be screwed directly to each of the battery studs when new, and remains there for the life of the battery. A cable mounted plug then connects directly to the battery mounted connector, which protects the threads and facilitates a quick change when required. The connector housing can then be removed when the battery has reached the end of its usable life and reused.

The ease of Souriau’s new connector system is particularly relevant given that batteries sit in a case attached to the chassis that is not always easy to reach. “The quick release function simplifies the removal and fitment of batteries in awkward and tightly fitting places,” concludes Richardson.

The new connectors are available for purchase from Souriau’s approved distributors BF1Connect and Filcon UK.

Products are engineered and manufactured in USA, Dominican Republic, Europe, Morocco, India and Japan and are sold via a global sales network.  The group employs 1650 people worldwide and has a sales turnover of more than 175 Million Euros.
