Zircotec presents new range of colours and finishes for high-technology ceramic coatingA new range of colours and metallic finishes is being developed by Zircotec for its successful plasma-sprayed ceramic coating. Following the tremendous success of its original ceramic coating, Zircotec is now developing the product in new colours, including blue, black and a range of metallic finishes. Retaining the same thermal properties as the original white coating, it offers the additional benefit of component customisation. Individuals can select colours to suit their own personal taste or the style of the car. The new colours are distinctive and also easier to keep looking clean, with dirt and marks less discernible. Zircotec’s high-technology ceramic coating has been used in many road and track car applications, including Koenigsegg’ Competition Coupe X supercar. Applied to the exhaust manifold using a high-temperature plasma spray, the Zircotec coating greatly reduces the release of heat, lowering underbonnet temperatures and protecting other components in the engine bay. The coating can also be applied to turbo housings, cam covers, heat shields and other metal components. The new range includes Zircotec blue, black plus a highly distinctive aluminium bronze. Unlike ceramic paints and coatings applied by other techniques that can burn off and become brittle, leading to flaking, the Zircotec process is proven to be highly durable in even the harshest motorsport applications. It can also resist local impacts like minor knocks during maintenance and is neater, more compact and more durable than old-style insulating wraps. The Zircotec processZircotec’s zirconia-based ceramics have a thermal efficiency of less than 1.7 W/m K, so provide an excellent thermal barrier. When applied to an exhaust system, the Zircotec coating inhibits the radiation of heat from the surface of the material, holding the heat inside. The coating can also be applied to other metal components including heat shields. For modern vehicles, the latest development is a coating for carbon fibre panels. Systems for coating can be sent to Zircotec’s technical centre at Harwell, where they will be coated and dispatched within five working days. A premium two day service is also offered. Call 01235 434326 to discuss specific applications. The company is also working on ceramic coated heatshield packages for popular applications, making it even easier to solve heat-related problems. Car clubs and enthusiast groups are invited to contact Zircotec to discuss new applications.
